It's been quite some time since I helped new players out by jettisoning mined minerals for them to collect and sell, but recently I was doing just that to help a friend of mine help one of their friends that picked up the game in a recent sale on XB1.
Last time I did it, we'd go about 12km outside the station in order to avoid security or other NPC pilots dropping from SC interfering. Never had a NPC come investigate what we were doing.
This most recent time, however, a Search and Rescue ship would always spawn near us and immediately come over and start manually scooping any canisters the newb's liimpets hadn't collected yet (usually I'd drop 10 at a time). Even when we extended our distance from the station another few km, S&R would pop in. It was sort of funny to me but the newb was a bit upset. I changed to dropping 2 at a time to counter it, as well as get the newb closer to where the cargo would end up so their limpets would collect faster. Reminded me of circling vultures (but they were in a Cobra MK III usually iirc

- When did FD sneak this change into the game?
- Will this also happen if we drop out of SC randomly (ie, 1.5 ls from station)?
- Is the S&R ship and rank determined the same way a pirate's ship & rank are determined when interrdicting you while you carry cargo?
