VR family is growing up, FDEV please give a higher consideration to Aknowledged VR Bugs fixing!

Anyway, whatever floats your boat man, whatever floats your boat. I fully support your bigger overarching theme of "Don't give up on VR, Frontier!"

which was pretty obvious from the get go. not the best place to run your 'mods for real men' campaign, but whatever floats your boat.

besides, i think the odds of vr support being more neglected or even completely dropped for new era are very, very real. that would indeed be the last nail in the coffin for me. in that case i would appreciate frontier being honest about it from the start but i don't count on that either.

The limited support for HMDs may be in hopes for a unified API. Ideally shouldn't the OS directly handle the HMD hardware and offer userspace software a unified graphics API for any and all HMDs? You know, how DirectX abstracts the current video hardware. I can actually understand Frontier not wanting to hand-code every new HMD vendor that comes to market. This doesn't mean they are totally giving up on VR.

Disclaimer - I'm no expert in VR headset drivers, etc. I'm just remembering back to the days of DOS when games had to code for every possible video card, and how eventually that job was passed to the OS. I long for the day when I can use my Oculus without this crap store running in the background, because all I need is just a simple Windows driver(s).

Then please go and sign the open letter add your feedback ( :p ) to the Issue Tracker!
I boycotted that miserable CAPTCHA hellstew the day it launched. Sorry, but my bug-reporting days are behind me. Anyway, I don't care about these lines of yours, and AFAIK the speculation of the death of VR is not an "issue" we can report.

I really think that VR is slowly being sidelined. With no new headsets being officially supported, and the VR text being removed from the elite dangerous website. I guess the New Era may will reveal this.

Outlined below in the link is the official support statement for existing VR headsets. The oculus CV1 has been discontinued, so maybe strike that off the list for future development?

I get the broader fears on VR support, but I think you’re reading a bit too much into that quote Flim.

We also wanted to give you an update on the following issue: VR: Double Vision and Incorrect Rendering on HMDs with Non-Parallel Displays (ex. Pimax). At the current time, there are no plans to provide support for new HMDs outside the officially supported systems and platforms. The officially supported platforms are Valve Index, HTC Vive and Oculus.

It’s just saying no Pimax support, because it’s super niche and uses an equally niche screen system.

They’ve supported the new Oculus and Vive models (the market leaders). (As far as I’m aware the WMR HMDs work too, if ‘unofficially’). The older models still work. Things aren’t so bad on those fronts ;)

Since switching to VR, I find myself asking, "People still play this on a flat screen?"

Yeah I prefer my 42" flat sceen where I can operate system map and galaxy map effortlessly, and without wanting to kick some devs in the balls.
And don't get me started on the FSS. Oh god

SysMap & GalMap are fine once bindings are setup correctly - and the urge to select with a mouse is culled :)
But, VR is another of those Marmite things, so no criticism toward you. (I won't mention the distance I've driven my SRV in VR 😲 )

those luckily unaffected by nausea or who managed to get over it, which i expect to be the majority, indeed do!

vr is precisely the single feature that makes playing this game still a thing after all the years and the nonsense.

i actually improved my setup by placing my entire vr cockpit behind my back, opposite to my desk. when i want to play elite i just turn around my chair 180º and there are my sticks, pedals, headset, etc. which is very close to a perfect setup but means i couldn't play any other way, even if i wanted to, without having to move quite some furniture around first.

I'd like some parity with the flatscreen version - orbit lines and an option to enable the zoom transitions instead of the enforced "comfort mode" of fast fade-to-black.

Although VR doesn't seem to have a champion at FDev any more, major bugs seem to be infrequent; the only game spoiler (beyond this week's framerate issues) I can remember was with the volumetrics only rendering in the left eye, which was a proper headache inducer.

Mind you, one of the Menu screens got curved last year, so I suppose there's still hope.

Also, this morning I think I've discovered the most minor visual bug going thanks to VR and making plenty of jumps back from the Core - (previously it was the hairline gap between the CMDRs right glove and suit arm (now solved via cosmetic jacket purchase) which panel lights shone through in the Cobra III) - the compass jobby on the left side of the scanner pulses blue when the jump drive is charging, but a small bit of background pulsing blue glow that I assume should be below it, is actually on the right side of the scanner. With VR I was able to lean forward and see that it wasn't a reflection on the dash, and might actually be a bit of leftover stuff from when the compass jobby was on that side.

Totally worth all the money I've spent on hardware :)

Indeed. Right now i am recommending ED in VR to anyone who just got a headset. This however is terrible advice if VR is on the verge of being dropped.
A simple "don't worry guys new era will support VR" or a "it's not looking likely that VR will be supported or even " we are not sure yet.., we are unable to commit to VR 1 way or the other right now" that way we will either know we are safe or that there is, at the very least issues.

You could argue that no news is good news and that FD would surely warn us
But history shows that is not what happens.

God I hope new era is vr ready. To me dropping VR would be just as bad as finding out the servers are shutting down

Exactly that! Should FDev consider to release "New Era" without VR-Support, I'm gone with a big tear. Elite is the game, that forced me to get money in the hand to buy the whole crap for VR and that wasn't the hmd alone.

They announced 1 year in advance the drop of mac support so hopefully they would do the same with VR.
