Newcomer / Intro Pre flight check keys not working - a different issue. (with screen shot)

I have seen other posts on this. But they don't seem to address my issue.
I am waiting on a T16000M joystick as I have given up on my Saitek X52pro the drivers and software even under Logitec ownership are just terrible I have waisted hour and hours trying to get things working... anyway that aside until my new joystick arrives I wanted to play with a standard mouse and keyboard binding. When I go through the pre-flight checks on the right side the control being pressed is highlighted... but for some reason, it's not being recognised by the pre-flight check even though on the left side you can see it's being pressed...

any ideas

From what I remember from the last time I used the checklist I had to move the control far enough or hold it long enough for it to be confirmed.

I tend to use it confirm bindings after an update.

I have been holding the keys for ages some work and some don't which is even more confusing....

The picture is probably too big. Open it in windows paint, shrink it to half and save it as JPEG instead of PNG.

OK thanks for the tip... as you can now see I am pressing L because of the control info on the left... and you can see pressing W and S worked but L does nothing... as you can see some of the keys work and some do not... even when i press the key

Have you tried re-binding them? I mean, for example, delete the landing gear binding and bind "L" again. Maybe it's bound in some weird case-sensitive way or something.

I have tried that and binding to a new key in both cases it will not go past the pre-flight check... what I don't know is if I bypassed the preflight check whether it would recognise the keys or not I am guessing not...

This is really weird. Yeah, if you turn off the pre-flight, there's a pretty good chance your controls will continue to not work.

I know that might be a stupid question, but are you sure your keyboard works?

Since this appears to be still an issue for the OP @j_k_nash :

Can you do a little thing to see if we can help? Firstly, go to to your Options\Bindings directory ...

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

... and remove all ".binds" files (don't just rename, actually move them out of the directory).

Start the game, at the main menu go to Options\Controls and select mouse and keyboard (if it is not already selected) - click apply at the foot of the page - start the game - launch and see if the check-list works now.

Good luck

OK, I think I can do that... W and S worked but not L
I kind of wanted to play with the joystick I had purchased but I can see just playing is not going to happen. :-( thanks anyway I guess LUCKY!! lol

OK - Try this - open your Options\Controls page, scroll down to your landing gear assignment (under the "Miscellaneous" group) - then where it says "L" - change that to something else (Like shift+L for example) and in the other column assign one of your joystick buttons or a mouse button if your joystick has not arrived yet (you can change that again later) remember to scroll down and click apply. Now when you go to the check-list you can pass the landing gear check using your new keybind or your joystick button.

If it still isn't passing the test - turn off the check-list - launch and see if your gear actually is extending and retracting.

If it still doesn't work - I'm stumped.

Hi @j_k_nash, hi all,
installed through Steam yesterday and have exactly the same problem.
Did you get this resolved and if so, how?

Edit: skipped the tutorial and all keys are working fine, is the "Training Simulation" menu on the right hand screen the same as the tutorial?

Thanks, Martin
