X 52 owners please read

Just to add a +1 for an x52. I got mine specifically for elite and have had it since the beta. So that's like 5-6 years?

Had no issues with it, occasionally it starts off-centred but a quick unplug/plug in usually sorts it.

I fly with a combo of this and voice attack which helps greatly with the lesser used commands.

For your mission, check your cargo hold - if the cargo is showing there then you need to deliver it, the missions tab won't update until you complete the delivery. If I understand what you mean.
OK I will try to remember to look at my cargo. But the job seems to disappear once you done with it. I would like to do cargo missions but don't like flying some place only to show up with and empty ship. Cargo jobs were fine before the devs changed it to what it is now.

All good stuff thanks. I am looking at the X52 not the pro. What I find interesting in my research is the the Pro has less button functionality that the X52. Right now though at $150 I have to think of how I am going to pay for it.
Not sure why you think the pro is less functional - iirc the reverse is true (slightly) because the MFD is better on the pro and the controls feel much nicer...and have selectable lighting

Re Cargo, if I understand your issue, you choose a mission (deliver 84 tonnes of water to mars high) and then it appears at the top of your missions list. It also opens the loading screen, where you have to select the + and then click COLLECT. Now you have 84 tonnes of water in your hold, and the destination and station you are in both show mission markers. Fly to destination, select mission on board, click the + until all selected then click COMPLETE.

Are you sure about that? I have both, and I've never noticed any difference except the colours.

It is based on what I read at Logitech specs.

x52 and x52 Pro are pretty similar - Pro has something which might help with remembering the commands etc - the MFD (little screen) can display the command you are currently pressing. There is a binds file which does all this (with instructions) at https://github.com/X52EliteSetup/X52-Pro - he also has one for non-pro version, and both include an A3 with all of the mapping listed - used that for months.

If you desk mount them (so they don't move around) the cable issue more or less goes away.

I kept the detent and use it full range (so reverse is 0% and stop is 50%). The forward detent marks the throttle point for supercruising into stations etc on the 7 second mark.

Have used it for 4 years, love it, upgrading to Virpil this month so my daughter can have my x52 setup :)

HTH

I went to the site and looked at the setup. Way too many buttons, switches and such for me. They don't have any hotas listed, just parts.

The X52 and X52 Pro are identical on the outside apart from colours. Inside, there are some metal parts on the Pro version that are plastic on the other. I never use the software because I never found a reason to use it. I just plug in, do the keybindings in ED and play. There are enough buttons, axes, etc to do everything you need without having to use the mode switch or LCD.

  1. About a year and a half.
  2. Not really. It does require a little lubricant on rare occasions. A PFTE spray works best I found and does not damage the plastics.
  3. Yes. (Whats the point of asking this?)
  4. This is a statement not a question. However I have owned many logitech items over the years and have had good results from all products. Things do wear out eventually and if you are thrashing them beyond their capabilities then obviously their lifespan is going to be shortened significantly.
I own a Saitek X52 pro. I picked it up second hand. It has handled quite a bit of punishment in the time I have owned it. The basic difference between the X52 and the X52 pro is that the pro has metal parts which make it stronger and more durable. Button functionality is almost identical with the pro however you get a couple of rolling switches near the screen on the throttle. However the screen and many of these switches are useless while playing Elite which is a real shame. I would suggest spending a little extra and getting the pro.

First, How long have you had your stick?
Owner of two X52 Pros. 1st one since ~ 2008. 2nd since ~2018.
Second, Have you had any problems with your stick?
1st some buttons started not working around ~2016/2017
2nd was much worse: The most annoying problem which occured almost imediately after purchase was that the mode switch was switching modes on its own as the stick and/or throttle was moving. This had devastating effects on gameplay as the landing gear and hardpoints were retracting / deploying unwillingly, not ot mention the change on pips. I posted my frustration to logitech but nobody could help or provide a solution. Replacement was not possible since it had a 30day back period and by the time I figured out that it was ot solvable, I couldn't return it..
2nd problem arrived quite recently and is throttle related: When throttle if set to full, itcannot return to iddle - some residual thrust (~30%) remains if you return it and you cannot return it something is stiff at ~25-30%. You have to push it to ~75% (before the stiffening point) and then it returns. There is a feeling that something is making it more stiff as you pass that ~75%.
Third, Did you know that Saitek no longer exists? Logitech bought them out a few years ago.
Yes
Fourth, My experience with Logitech has been bad. I have in the past purchased keyboards and mice and they have all broke.
Agree

Wow, that is disappointing. I just bought a Logitech X52. Waiting for delivery. I hope I don't have the problems you are having with your stick. I bought mine form Logitech. Most on this thread seem to have minor problems where they can take their setup apart clean some stuff and then their off.
Thanks for your respone. I expect to get mine early next week.

I bought mine when the game started 5 years ago and it's still working ok. Sometimes I do have to pull the connecting wires out and back in to stop drifting of the joystick part but other than that it is fine.

HI,
If you want to post about your Warthog, T.16000, X56, or any other stick, I am not interested. Just the X52 owners.
I have some questions.

Not related to the theme of this thread but very important to me. Cargo missions. I did one. I clicked the + 6 times. Then I clicked on complete. The space between the + and -. Then I went to my nav panel/transactions. It said that I had nothing. What am I missing? I would really like to do some of these jobs but end up getting aggravated when I travel to a system to drop off the cargo and there is nothing.
OK so I bit the bullet and bought the X52. The throttle is stiff. I hope that loosens up. And yes I turned the to make it looser.
I already had a problem with forward motion. I was going backward when I left the station. So I made some adjustments in controls. The stick on the other hand is loose. It is OK because I don't jam the stick around.

You might want to physically remove the indent on the throttle. An easy job. For the stick. Mine came with three springs for different stiffness. If it is very loose opening the deadbands will help with drifting.

MY X52 does not have a detent.

  1. 5 years -give or take a few weeks
  2. some driver problems which I was able to work around by having the windows calibration tool open, and last year the primary trigger stopped working reliably - which is a bit of an inconvenience. creative firegroups keep me afloat until I can afford a replacement.
  3. Yes, and there was MadCatz in between
  4. similar, luckily my hotas held up quite a while.

I’ve had mine for at least as long as ED has been out maybe longer. It’s an original Saitek. My only issue is the rubberized coating has all come off. I had an OG X52 before it and it had actual rubber inserts instead. But after 5+ years of heavy use it’s only developed the smallest amount of drift on the Y axis. Adding the smallest dead zone possible sorts it.
