Humm I see. So you suggest people should buy Jurassic World or Planet Zoo to support Elite Dangerous develoment, maybe?
Cunning.
I'm suggesting you should buy anything from Frontier that you want to buy, but just realise that you're not 'supporting' anything. You're just buying a game. Even when you bought E D you weren't 'supporting' E D. You were buying a game. The only people who 'supported' the game's development were the kickstarter backers and their 'support' was the kickstarter buy-in, not anything they might have bought from the shop after release.
Sure FDev are going to be looking at how much they make from cosmetic items for this game because it would be commercially idiotic for them not to, but a decision to buy some stuff for the game is not an expression of support anywhere other than in the purchaser's head. At the other end of the pipeline, it's figures on a balance sheet.
If people actually want to support
software development as opposed to just buying a game, my advice would be to find a bedroom coder working on a dream project that you believe in and support them because without someone's cash, that game will probably never get made.
However I can guarantee you that FDEv made more money from Planet Zoo than Elite last year, so it's an indisputable fact that the money spent by anybody who bought it will be paying for continuing development of Elite, just as the cash anybody who bought Planet Coaster spent was used to pay for the development of Jurassic World Evo. When the Elite update goes on sale at at he end of the year the cash raised will be spent on whatever they're working on at the time.
Again, you seem to think this is some bizarre concept that I've dreamed up. It's not; it's running a business. They don't take the three quid I spend on an Anaconda paint and put it in the Elite Dangerous piggy bank to only be spent on Elite Dangerous development. Probably a good job too because I don't think the end of year update would be too impressive if it was being paid for just from the ship paint money from 2019 and 2020.
