Ships A friendly note to Felicity Farseer

Dear Felicity:

Your thruster updates are wonderful. Really first-rate stuff, my ship feels transformed, thanks so much. One suggestion, if I may: as you notice my constant comings and goings in a longsuffering effort to find you one more Cracked Encoded Maboobilizer or whatever, you might think to mention: "Hey Pat! All this effort is A COLOSSAL WASTE OF TIME BECAUSE I HAVE THESE ADVANCED PERFORMANCE THRUSTERS WHICH ARE BETTER RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX THAN THE CONVENTIONAL THRUSTERS YOU HAVE SPENT HOURS BUSTING YOUR A** TO ENGINEER, and which now sit uselessly in a space station gathering dust."

Thank you kindly.

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Oh yes...

In the right ship, you definitely want to engineer those enhanced performance thrusters!

I have an iEagle with a top speed of 678 m/s and a boost of 905 m/s, and then this iCourier...

It's actual speeds are 652 / 885 m/s.

And while those are pretty stripped down and built just for speed, you can absolutely get similar speeds with ships that can be effectively used for combat.

Erm outside of the courier, NO YOU CAN'T.

The courier is simply one of the best ship to get a 'fast' combat ship, any other ships that can match/beat the courier in speed suffer horrendously any added weight due to combat based modules.

You forgot to mention the cost :p
And you can engineer them too !

LOL yeah the 4M cr to add a bit of speed to my 250K Imperial Eagle seemed a bit steep....but frankly I'd shell out 10M if I could avoid having to search high and low for a stupid security firmware patch.

Well, I was referring to iCouriers, but I get that wasn't clear. :)

That said, you can still get really good speeds on ships like the Viper Mk III, certainly not as fast, but nice and nippy just the same.

No worries mate, Courier is the only one that can get somewhat effective 700+m/s combat builds IMO.

The other ships just don't do enough damage output or are way to fragile. While they are super agile it does really take an exceptional pilot to capitalise on that in a hectic dogfight etc. BH'ing a single target in a RES with the cops helping however can be done in a stock eagle so....

but for actual combat my go to is the courier with about 700m/s build, it's tough enough to survive a fair kicking if shields go down, fast enough to escape anything NPC and can still output good damage as the weapons can be decently engineered rather than having to go LW.

Is that 700m/s boost or max normal speed? Care to share the build? Thanks.

I've only just got into EP Thrusters too. I'm waiting on some power play Cytoscramblers to round out this iEagle build. No lightweight weapons, but 800 m/s boost capable. Drop the weapons and interdictor for nearly 100m/s additional boost for yee-hawwin' in canyons, structures, etc. Might not be practical, but its fun. The major drawback of EP-thrusters is all my other ships feel so slow

Obviously I'll stand to be corrected, but I believe they are referring to boost. I don't think it's possible to get a top speed of 700 m/s in any ship. My fastest top speed is an iEagle at 678 m/s with a boost of 905, totally stripped down.

The build I linked above is far away my fastest combat capable ship, but here's another iCourier that's a bit tougher...

I have a bunch of combat builds with similar speeds, a couple of Viper MK III's and a Mamba as well as other iCouriers.

You can get the iEagle to 699 top / 932 boost :)

The Viper III can do 745 and boost to 932 if you strip it down enough. I don't think you can get it to go that fast with any form of effective weapons loadout though....

No, the Viper is a bit slower than the iCourier once you add anything to it. I built a pretty nice and quick combat capable one for fun.

The point of my statement that you quoted - which was responding to someone asking whether a combat capable iCourier had a top speed of around 700 m/s - was that no, the 700 m/s was almost certainly referring to boost.

I'll stand corrected that it's possible to get a ship with a top speed of over 700 m/s (maybe I'll build myself one, I do like fast ships), although quite what you'd do with it, other than smash it into a canyon wall (which I have done a few times with my iEagle) is still not really clear. :)
