FDEV, question for you with BGS, please answer

I am with Stargate Command and allied with Red Squadron. in Wolf 359 we keep doing missions and we keep getting screwed over with state changes. War and Elections are all we ever win. we are getting our 2nd infrastructure failure in the past 3 months, 2 outbreaks, and since we control no stations or settlements and the missions don't work, Red Squadron keeps getting screwed over. Is there anything you can do?

Take over the local media outlets. People won't care about democracy if they're told it's popularist.

the wars and Elections are easy, it's the stupid infrastructure failures, famine, and outbreaks that are a killer. we do the missions that should keep the faction strong and the infrastructure failure kicked the others into play. before the January update, we had a boom and almost civil liberty going into investment. how do we keep the infrastructure failures from happening

We don't know yet exactly what causes them. Probably some sort of negative transaction against the faction, but exactly which sort is unclear.

Probably the only way to stop them is to make sure a different event state happens instead (but most of those are bad too) - if you could get Pirate Attack or Public Holiday then that would be much better - these are possible to get without owning a station. Focus your efforts on positive actions for your faction 14 days after the current Infrastructure Failure ends (which is when its recovery period ends, and when you can get another Event secretly pending).

Collect bounties with a KWS in your systems for the next few weeks, save up the bounties for your faction, hand them all in as soon as "Recovering Infrastructure Failure" vanishes from the state list. That might get you something different next time round.

Unlikely work in wolf 359 will have an effect as we at Hutton have a team stationed there managing it daily.
Just in case that comment is taken the wrong way (not Wrongway, he's a top bloke and fellow Hutton Trucker!) the Hutton team do not actively work against other factions, player or otherwise, that's not our MO. We do, however, perform all the actions we are aware of to keep our influence steady. The only exception to this is when we are actively being targeted.

I don't think it was Hutton. Before the January update we never had any type of status effects that were negative. Even with low reputation we were having a boom economy that was just about to go into investment and our security was about to go into civil liberty. After the January update we continuously got hit with negative effects. Sometimes three different ones at the same time. It happened the first time I asked and I had no response from anyone that Frontier. Now that it is happening again and this is only march, hoping I can get a response from them that has some kind of instructions or help

Normally I'd say open a ticket if you think its a bug- in the past I've had BGS issues that FD have dealt with. Record whats been going on and open one, but with COVID 19 doing the rounds I would not expect a speedy answer. If the timing was around patches it might be BGS twiddling on FDs end has caused it.

Before the January update none of the new negative event states existed. (Terrorism, Infrastructure Failure, Drought, Blight [1], Natural Disaster)

Now they do, and one of the things most of new states do while active is hit your economy and security sliders hard.

So you'll get Infrastructure Failure as part of the usual run of things, and that'll push you into Bust + Civil Unrest if you don't do a lot to counter it (and without any stations, countering it is a lot of effort), as well as eroding your influence. Once it's gone, you can then start recovering those sliders (and they'll very slowly drift back towards None anyway). Higher-traffic systems (and a central system like yours will be) seem to be more prone to Infrastructure Failure on both primary and secondary factions, than to some of the other event types.

All of this appears to be entirely intentional to make the BGS more interesting and varied. (e.g. Remember all the complaints from material collectors that Famine and Civil Unrest were really hard to find? They've largely stopped now.) Of course, "interesting and varied" will mean that some factions end up on the sharp and pointy end...

[1] Blight was previewed in the Scourge Interstellar Initiative, but not released as a normal state.

the next update should have missions to fight them, like war having massacre missions.

if fdev doesn't help us, it will take red squadron down. it brought us down to unrest and bust and we are barely on the edge of getting out of it now. with it starting again, along with all the other effects in play, we will have complete failure for at least 4 weeks before we can do anything

FYI wolf 359 is a hard system to make ground in, in both the old BGS and the new one.

It's a small high traffic system on Sol's doorstep. Very hard to rise above the background noise. We spent a lot of time making that system stable..ish

Luyten's Star is the Red Squadron's home system. May I suggest taking control of that one first and as Hutton we have no intention of giving up any stations in wolf 359. Do call round to huttons discord :) (invite is somewhere on our website)

Many of the existing missions may already help - some of the fastest times I've seen for recovery from failure are on factions like yours which can basically only use missions. Which ones and how much is the sort of thing which will need a lot more experimentation.

And the existing missions can certainly counter the secondary effects on economy, security and influence, of course - though not necessarily fast enough.

This is going to sound harsh ... but that's the game. The BGS doesn't take sides, and some systems and factions have a harder time that others because of what everyone else is doing. If you try to take a high-traffic system owned by a major player group with all stations consolidated to them, it's going to be virtually impossible regardless of how the BGS is designed, unless you have a lot of people and know exactly what you're doing.

As graememk says, Luyten's Star will be easier - you've got an Outbreak there at the moment, and own stations, which means you can pile on a lot of influence by bringing in Basic Medicines for high profits, and usually get decent mission choices too. (Still won't be easy, because it's also a low-ish population high-traffic system controlled by a faction which attracts a fair amount of player backing, but you have a lot more options)

During the last infrastructure failure we did all the missions possible and it lasted for two weeks. It wouldn't let us recover until 2 weeks after that. at the same time we got hit with famine and outbreak and war. only the war missions came up, the other had what looked like basic missions, nothing connected to the status of the faction.

Wolf 359 is a core system right in the middle of the bubble check inara for a traffic report I bet other players in solo and private group are doing more BGS transaction than your group. This is why my squadron of 19 people left Ross 780 we just couldn't influence enough as a small group.
