Talking about dangerous countries, Iran isn't doing very well it seems. Some anonymous health workers in Teheran were in touch with a Norwegian journalist. They explained that the situation is far worse than what the government reports. According to these people, Italy has an easy ride compared to Iran.

I seem to remember mass graves being dug on satellite photos. Hopefully they'll never be needed.

I suspect that is happening in quite a few countries, and will increase as time goes on. Partly because some regions of the world have less a tradition of openly sharing such information, and partly due to the sheer lack of testing inability. :/

I can find a professional escrow broker if that's acceptable.

I have access to several law firms who can do this.

Ideally, I'd just send money to you directly, in the event that the peak US deaths per day from COVID-19 from May 15th or earlier isn't surpassed within some sensible time period (a year?), but I'll go the escrow route if that's what you'd prefer and you have a good method on hand.

Feel free to PM me the details of what you have in mind.

That said, there are a more than a few outliers now whom are in the 'young and fitty' camp who are suffering with it in a bad way, such as these poor chaps.

There will always be outliers...one of the reasons why dealing in absolutes or having arbitrary cut offs with preventative measures is just as unwise as ignoring trends.

Right now over here the media are very much painting everything in a very positive light. There really seems to be a conscious attempt to keep spirits high in these times, pretty much without any point scoring or bickering between traditionally left and right media.

Prime Ministers question time in the UK today was the most civilized I've ever heard it, no jeering and they were agreeing with each other which is unheard of.

Things must be bad, or the experts have got through to them.

A year???

Deal closes on May 15th

I'll send you the details of how to transmit payment then.

If you win - I'll just do the same.

It will be obvious by then.

We are near the end of the first quarter with the US death toll at 849.

Even if it reaches 1k/qtr we shut down the world's largest economy for a death toll that's about 10% of what we experience in auto accidents.

I'm all for the fact that this should improve health standards and stimulate research - but the hysteria has been blown out of any rational sense through media hype in the hopes of turning this into a topic we aren't allowed to discuss here.

Life goes on...

I think people are really seeing the extent of the crisis, almost like wartime. At the very beginning we had one of our more populist politicians try to get a cheap point in and the overwhelming response from his own base was:"Dude, not now.". So now everyone is constructive, polite and sensible.

I'm classified as "critical need" so no holing up at home for me.

As I mentioned one of my mate is a (contracted, so not independent) construction worker. Lets say it is not the career path people typically show a lot of respect for, but now suddenly he is 'critical need' and building office space for corps who send everyone home to sit behind their laptop in their PJs. Something we discussed a few days ago is this: all the 'critical need' folks; the construction workers, truck drivers, grocery store clerks, nurses, police officers and so forth: when this is all over, will they then be paid what you'd expect a crucial 'critical need' job would bring, or will we forget all about this?

We both had the same depressing suspicion.

This is the massive irony. The NHS has been massively underfunded for years and years for ideological reasons and now its indispensable, along with all the immigrants who until three months ago were seen as trash.

Nobody is making anyone go to work, though. I'm not forcing any of my people to, or telling them their jobs are gone if they don't. I could go bankrupt, but that's just a financial reality when you own a business. People in my profession tend to be pretty smart, hard headed and practical, even if the rest of the world tends to take the Mike Bloomberg "I can teach anyone to farm," so nobody I know is voluntarily going to pass on work.

The pay scales though...you sure you wanna go there? I can almost guarantee that'd wind up being a death blow to this thread. I suspect a lot of the more dire predictions by the media and all forms of even the mildest positivity shouted down is to help move the world, most especially America, over the finish line to out and out socialism. That's why the current administration in America is so constantly denegrated. Anyway, I'd love to go down this road if the rest of you are game:)

I am not entirely sure if you got the point I was making. It was not about any of that, and I am not interested in getting this topic locked. Rubbernuke got it, see his post for reference.

I saw his post, and I got both of your points; I fundamentally disagree with the premises your point(s) rest upon. No disrespect intended.
