Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I tried to watch the Carrier reveal stream, but I couldn't make it through. It's like their talking about some other game. ED Tycoon, I guess.

When they started talking about other players buying stuff from me...stuff I was charging a premium for...and that's how to support the upkeep of the carrier...

Maybe I'm not seeing the picture, but I tuned out at that point. I'll read the summary afterwards.

Yep, I watched the Carrier stream. With the upkeep and the other things, it doesn't feel like there is anything there for a solo player, especially not if you fancy having a night or week off every so often. Pity.

They obviously put a huge amount of work into it, but it does look more like "Elite : Spreadsheets" than flying spaceships!

I haven't seen it yet, but i guess you need to know all that stuff in order to run it efficiently.Since it's way out of my price range i shall just observe things for a couple of years. At least that will allow me to watch it in action, and i can then decide if i can find a use for it.

I'd rather have space legs than an FC. I was going to try and get one at some point but, given all this warm up/cool down/upkeep/trithingummy malarky, they're not going to be my cup of decaf.

Anyway, I'm back to finding more virgin systems onto which "Tyres O'Flaherty" is being sprayed. Feels like I'm making my mark on the game - a bit like a tom cat.

After not playing to game for some time, being busy working, it's good to be back. Started out just flying my different spaceships. I can't remember any bindings, but if I don't think about it, my muscle memory serves me just fine. Weird! My landings are better than ever. Almost no hull damage ;)

I read about FCs the other day, and I want one. I saved up the 5 billion around new year, but spent some of it on crazy ship builds, so I need half a billion more. Tried some good old core mining, but then I switched to low temp laser mining at Borann instead. Me like. (y) Went for my old Python, and if that spaceship was a car, it would be a drivers car. Smooth ride indeed.

Another ship that really shines coming back is "Little Walter", my Vulture. At Colonia I did some bounty hunting in an Eagle, which is highly addictive , and I was looking at the Courier I once tuned and might have to revisit that one. First I think I'll have to try a T9 for laser mining. I have a T10 with all the thingies needed.

It is a shame, I agree. I may not even bother with the beta tests. There's not much point.

Sadly, it's even dampened my excitement for New Era at the end of the year. FD seems to have lost the thread.

This game could be so much more.
I am not a fan of Fleet Carriers as they have been revealed to date, but then I haven’t liked the idea since it was first floated as some sort of club room for Squadrons. That said I will definitely try them out in the beta to see if they could fit with how I play, even if the first beta shows that they won’t be for me I will do the second one anyway as there is going to be more than just owning a carrier to test out.

My enthusiasm for new era is still mostly positive despite reports that a lot of what it will bring is not of great interest.

If it works like the other beat tests, you wake up one morning and have the beta as another option in the launcher. Then you select the beta, click on "update", go back to sleep and hope that your connection has downloaded the beta before the test period is finished.

It's most likely again going to be another game installlation, available to everyone who cares to download it through their launcher. Everyone, that is, who isn't accessing the game through Steam. In this case, I have no idea how it will work, but probably very similar.

This image reminds me of the first days of playing Elite, flying passengers in a Dolphin, trying to please them, however annoying they were, just to get that Mam-ba. Once I realized I finally had the credits... :)

I may have heard wrong - and this is Rumour Control - that you'll be given 10bnCR so you can beta FCs.

I wouldn't expect it. In other betas, you were given a generous amount (but nowhere near enough to buy e.g. a fully equipped Cutter) upon clear save. ISTR that, in the stream, someone mentioned that they don't want only carrier pilots, but also people who are using the carriers as regular CMDRs. Seeing that there are enough CMDRs around with a sufficient balance, there's no need (from a testing point of view) to hand out free money (or adjust the carrier price) in order for everyone to fly a carrier.

Well, thankfully, someone posted 'the details' in text form, and having had a chance to look them over, my interest has been piqued .One or two of the items gave me a bit of a chuckle and i expect to hear many howls of anguish from the unwary once a few of the less obvious possibilities are put into effect by the more mischievious amongst us.I'm not quite sure how a public beta works on consols.I guess details will be posted somewhere closer to the time.

No one knows how the console public beta will work as this is the first one in the history of Elite.
