Community Event / Creation Vocal Response Pack - English - Female

Thanks for the question.. sometimes we overlook the little things.

We use Sellfy to distribute the updates, you will receive an email to the address you used to download the pack with a download link everytime we release an update.

If you change your email address let us know, currently Sellfy has no way of updating that information so we'll provide a manual link for people in that case.

Awesome, thanks for the help

It's been a while since our last update, and we're sorry about that. Sometimes personal life starts to overtake things and this is something I can only really tackle out of work hours.

We've put a lot of effort into tidying up the issues that a couple of our users took the time to point out to us, and we really appreciate that feedback.

There are still more samples to be added, but the fixes were more important, and the major PITA which was renaming all the files. I'm sure that's going to **** people off but it had to be done.

I've seen that another Elite fan has created an amazing voice pack using a commercial text to speech engine, and has done some excellent work mimicing the in game computer sound effect. Well done on that, the scope of that project looks huge with all the 'online dictionary' functions that are being built into that profile.

I guess competition is flattering? :)

It has however resolved us to look at what we plan to do next, and we want to continue to emphasise the human side of our Voice packs. To that end we're thinking of doing a more 'character' based voice, something that may be your first mate, or second in command answering you.

If you have any ideas of how you'd like that to play out, let us know. We're listening! and if you know any good voice talent .. point them my way!

I'm not playing ED at the moment, but I jumped in to quickly leave some feedback after skipping through the new update.

Amazing work!
You fixed so much stuff, the sorting is great now and the new additions are clever and useful!

Happy customer here!

We’ve been asked a few times to provide a female voice sample pack of our Vocal Response Compilation. We dont think it’s fair to people who’ve bought the pack to offer a pack of samples for free, however we are happy to provide a few to listen to. After all it’s also only fair that you can sample the voice used for our Vocal Response Compilation.

To that end our page with free voice pack samples is here:

http://vrcompilations.com/female-voice-sample-pack/

I hope that satisfies your curiousity. We're still working on the pack, I've got a stack more samples to do but life has been getting in the way. Planning a trip to the UK, so I'm even wondering if it's possible to visit the studio... hmmm i'd love to have some developer voices as easter eggs!

I'll take my portable sound gear with me this trip for sure.

Responses to Keyboard / Stick ?

Can you set computer lady to respond to normal commands even when you are not using VA ( Commands I mean, not application )?

VA is awesome but I've been using studio headphones instead of my astros lately and VA will make me buy new audiophile headphones ( with mic ) or a separate mic and I'm trying to avoid that for now.

I am also trying to decide if I'm the type of CMDR to talk to my ship or to fondle my ship and that's a philosophical question.

But I was watching a SC video and the thing I was most impressed with ( other than the skybox ) was the snarky computer. I realized it's more important to me that the ship talks to me than I to it, that's what I would get this for.

Thanks.

Interesting question, and one that ties into other requests as well.

I really think this is unlikely. To have the computer talk to you based on in game events would require some form of open API that could be hooked into, and this would then open the game up to some serious scripting cheats etc.

If the current in game voice is given more dialogue, and the game is moddable then it may be possible at that point to replace the existing voice with another, but this is just speculation.

We will keep an eye on developments. We're still keen to do a more 'character' type voice but it's fairly dependent on the continued success of the current voice pack. With the competition voice pack released that uses TTS instead of an actual voice actor it's hard to 'keep up', we need recording sessions to add new vocab, they can just type sentence into notepad.

Hi, give me a shout - I've pm'd you. ;)

I purchased the ED Voice Pack....

When I last got paid earlier this week and could never get the thing to work before I had to prepare for BETA TWO.

There was some sort of problem with my version of Windows Media Player not recognising the URL address in the Command I was testing for it.

I kept saying Canis Minor and it was supposed to describe what ever that was to me, but just kept getting that error message.

Here is the Website I took it form if that helps.

I didn't know there was another voice pack like the one the author of this thread mentioned.

How many are there and which ones should I avoid?

3 bucks for a voice? You must be joking, I can make this myself if I wanted to as could anyone else.
Now if it could hear you and reply with AI it might be something...if it could tell me the best place to buy a commodity and then the best place to sell it... hmmm maybe suggest an attack strategy, or guide me to a kill mission target goal.

Keep working on it and let us know.

Might want to take the lead from them and drop the speaker for the TTS to be able to do more.

Hi Commander Mick. It seems the Voice Pack you're using is another one, as ours is just a collection of audio responses and not a VoiceAttack profile with pre-set commands/responses.

You may want to go to their website and ask for soem assistance, though I suspect teh issue you're having is more related to the VoiceAttack software and your voice recoginition settings.

The creator of VoiceAttack is very pro-active on his support forum and if you head over to the website (it's in my sig too) you'll probbaly get the assistance you need.

Funny, I might say £3 for a TTS voice is a bit more of a stretch, but it's not, a lot of work has gone into that pack too. Both the TTS pack that is out there and ours have something in common. Someone else has put in a lot of effort to create something that you 'may' not have the time or technical skill to create yourself.

Of course you can record you own voice, if you like listening to yourself. or you can use your own TTS to create an encyclopedia, if you want to spend the time programming VA profiles. But what we both offer is a very cheap way to have a bit of extra immersion.

Why would we want to drop our unique and awesome voice actress (who by the way is a professional actress and being paid as such) for a computer generated voice that sounds just like what someone else is already doing?

So you can keep up, like you said...right?

Keep up with what? We offer a pack of almost 800 audio samples. These are custom responses to game commands designed to work well with a range of games, mainly space sims like Elite and Star Citizen.

We're not an encyclopedia, never aim to be. We're not a pre-made profile, why limit people? This discussion is great though, it's bringing a bit of extra attention to our pack and we've sold a few extra copies today.

I'm working on my own voice pack using a TTS voice and a chain of effects in Ableton, because I like doing things myself and my way. So I'm well placed to say that your concept of hiring an actual actress to do the voices can be a big plus, because sometimes it's very hard or even impossible to make the TTS voice pronounce certain words properly, and certain sentences just don't sound natural. With a human voice you'll always get satisfying results.

I am of the opinion that some people want a HUMAN voice, of quality, like this one (which is both pleasant and well put together) - It's a personal thing and very deep. Personal to me would mean "I don't want a human voice, it's real, and for me that's intrusive". I firmly believe it's that simple.

Others prefer a "somebody that's real, sounds real" like this voice actor. Ship's computers from Sci Fi movies, media and TV have always historically sounded "artificial" on the whole - not quite human (excluding Alien's synthetic androids). Nevertheless, what is imagined to be the best all round will always be scripted, well produced quality "sound" from which ever media / software / TTS. One man's poison is another man's cup of tea. :)

A good point. The idea is very good-but it remains a "one trick pony". If the customer does not like the one voice on offer-then no sale. Maybe some alternatives are required-not just computer sounding ones, but maybe some other types as well-comedy ones for example.

I agree - We have a Vulcan on his way and others - they take time though as the OP said. Human voice actors are expensive and frankly you need them in the booth all day for these sorts of things, so updates for them are not practical. Unless of course it's well funded.

We're not blind to the idea of other voices, that is for sure. Now that we've got a fairly complete script we are looking at the feasibility of other voices. It's always been our intention for example to offer a male voice (your First Mate if you like) and possibly some other languages like Polish, and possibly a rougher/tougher take on it for the pirate types out there.

However it needs to be financially viable, and while the Elite community has been really supportive and positive, the Star Citizen community which is much larger has shown very little interest at all. That makes it harder to justify.

I'm travelling to the UK at the start of 2015 and I'm going to see if I can get some recording done there, but I've nothing set in stone at the moment.
