Is it just me, or have animal hitboxes gotten bigger?

I updated the game and decided to build a new zoo to look at all the new stuff. What I noticed was that a lot of the shelters I used to be able to use with little difficulty suddenly need adjustments for even bigger entrances for the animals. These two workshop items for example:

  • Animal House
  • Zoo Tycoon Burrow

could no longer fit animals inside without adjustments. The warthog could not go into the animal house unless I removed the stairs, sunk it into the ground, and removed the middle beam separating the 2 doorways. The small burrow would not fit aardvarks unless I removed several dirt shapes from the entrance to make it larger.

This seems to be the exact opposite of what's ideal, because there were already a lot of complaints about hitboxes being too large before the update.

I had the same feeling, wondering if it was just my imagination. I can't put feeder next to the border of the habitat, it has to be really top far away :/

I wonder what cause this, they can't be doing that on purpose. Hope it is not too hard to fix !

Yes the did increase the hitbox sizes, unsure of which update did it but it was around the Arctic DLC launch. I agree this change needs reverted. It's silly and annoying. I have many blueprints from prior habitats for my wolves, one with a rock they used to climb on and sleep on, but now they won't due to outrageous hitbox sizes not allowing them anymore to climb on certain rocks even if they are close to ground level.

I've heard they were changed after the beta, but what I mean is with the recent 1.2 update which seems to have increased the collision size yet again. The shelters I listed could be used without changes yesterday, but suddenly animals couldn't walk into them today. Not being able to place habitat items near barriers is also new with the update

Well now I'm worried to load my saves.

Man Frontier is BAD at listening to their community. Literally people have been asking for them to be decreased, so they get their big brain caps on and make it even worse? Big smart. This is how you lose a community.

I doubt it's not on purpose, they did it now 3 times? Beta, Arctic DLC, and now on the South American DLC, almost feels like they are purposefully making it increasingly frustrating for builders and people who like designing things. 😑

Back with more examples, a rock cave I have needs to be this wide for a lion to walk into it now:

Add a divider in the middle, and they struggle to walk into it

No, they are human beings, with brains, there are much more incredible and amazing things in this update than annoying ones. People asked for a better pathing system, they improved it. They made numerous building pieces especially for builders. They improved animals behavior, made the education system more understandable. People asked for color variations, and they're working on it for a future update. You can't judge a whole company on one single thing that gets on your nerve. You can be ed off, but you can't truly believe that a company would do on purpose something that its clients hate, after they said they hated it !

This said, I do hope they fix it in the near future.

Well, that would explain why my habitats that were big enough before the update suddenly aren't anymore

I really hope they fix this soon because at this point it's even breaking zoos, as it starts to heavily affect animal wellfare.
