Looking for HOTAS recommendation for VR ED

i don't think so but that's a limitation from elite, since it only allows: gear, cargo, and hardpoints to work as a single toggle. if you play DCS it allows that kind of control.

Okay, so It Is Done: got an e-mail from one store they just received a X56, so bit the bullet. Thank you all very much for the feedback and suggestions. FWIW: I was very close to ordering a CH throttle (apart from the T16000m breaking down I find the stick itself more than fine, the throttle not so much) but the X56 changed my mind.

Lets hope it works. :p

Good luck !

A full HOTAS will change your game, especially in VR. X56 has a lot of fans so I'm sure you'll love it.

I also have a x56, the only button that I couldn't map was the SLD, and that was an easy fix. In the joystick's software you map the SLD to a key press such as 'V' with a repeat function, so when its slid forward its pressing the key. I've got V mapped to Silent running in elite.
Don't recall the specifics since it's a few years since I played with those settings but it was more than just the slider. I recall some HAT and thumbstick combos not working in ED at all. I couldn't tell you which ones since I only saved the combos that did work.

I've heard other people have that problem too, I have no idea why it works for me but not for others. 🤔

Is it possible to map the switches on the base of the throttle to 'down=gear down, up=gear up' and such for similar 'toggles' (lights, cargo hatch)?
Nope, I have my left switch with down as "Toggle landing gear" Up as "Toggle lights".
However, I used to have a configuration that had the rotary "mode select" mapped to do this. If you rotated into the bottom postion, it mapped to a keypress that toggled the landing gear. When you then rotated out of the bottom position it pressed the same key to un-toggle the landing gear. This felt great, but was always vulnerable to my young son coming along and messing with all the rotary dials when I wasn't playing. First thing I knew about it was it wouldn't rotate the right way, and I pancaked the landing with my headset off trying to work out why....

I had an X52 Pro and now have an X56. The X56 would be excellent if you have large hands (I don't so struggle a little) but it does feel more 'accurate' than the X52.

The Throttle in particular may need a USB 3 port if your USB 2 ones are a little low on current (It ghosts a lot and does strange things if current is low!)

Nice one, enjoy it :)

If anyone wants pointers on how I made my T16000 better than new after 6 years feel free to PM me.

Can't really recommend CH anymore, their quality has taken an absolute nose dive last few years, sure they are the exact same designed but mine has wonky buttons on both throttle and stick as well a need for giant deadzones, the throttle for instance had to be calibrated short, and calibrated often.
The ministick on the throttle worked great for thrusters, but it's overall functioning resolution is about 4 bits.

I have since moved on with a full Virpil setup, and although I certainly love it, I can't recommend anyone spend upwards of $1300 on HOTAS...
That's just crazy.

That's a shame, really sorry to hear that.

I've had four CH Pro Throttles and they've all had issues of some kind, especially the more recent ones.

Still usable--indeed hard to match for anything less than twice the price--but I consider them kits, rather than finished products, at this point.

I normally need to at least bore out the hole the ministick pokes through (which about doubles it's useful resolution) and reclamp the wires going to the pots. On some samples I need to bend the pot tabs to center the throttle axis.
