I think the Safest place will be in North Korea
And where exactly would you put them? Particularly whilst the ship's alongside in Guam of all places.
They're better off onboard where they've got access to decent food, sickbay and a proper medical team than stepping ashore and potentially dosing the whole island.
Why did they pick that spot? Travel time to a better place maybe?
A Nimitz-class carrier can do 60km/hr or so. From Guam to mainland US (california) would take a week or so. Getting an infected ship to dock in a foreign country is tricky. Having your aircraft carrier incapacitated in another nation is less than ideal too.
This is a really, really good Article of a swiss Prof.Dr.med. Dr. h.c. Amongst some Switzerland specific remarks, he presents a LOT of insight and knowledge re the Pandemic . Unfortunatley, I do not know how to create an URL for a Version translated into english, if someone would be so kind to tell me, I will edit this post to link to the translated page :

You are right about Guam's capacity, for sure. Why did they pick that spot? Travel time to a better place maybe?
But they can't stay in the close quarters in a closed ventillation system with shared heads. The disease will inevitable hit everyone on board, and that's a strategic ship, not a cruise liner.

Naval Base Guam is quite large and well equipped, relatively speaking, but that many crew would be hard to isolate anywhere and are already overwhelming Guam (both the base and the island).
Its a lot further than that. Transiting across the Pacific is an absolute chore, and they wont be able to do it at top speed, but cruising which (rule of thumb) is about 12-16 knots.
Also remember, its not just a case of withdrawing the carrier: her escort and support ships will need to sail with her as well.
Ah yes, complete forgot about the support ships. But if it really needs to such a ship can get there in a week more or less on its own, no? In any case, my bet is they are at Guam because there simply isn't a serious alternative rather than any special properties of Guam itself. Especially if support ships cant keep up (and I have literally no clue, so defer to your experience) I don't think it is a serious proposition to have an 8 billion dollar carrier on its own with a crippled crew suffering from a poorly understood virus set out for a week+ long journey basically in the middle of nowhere.
Theoretically, yes.
Doctrinally speaking however we're talking about the USN, not RN, French or Spanish/Italian Navies. They would never let a carrier sail on its own anywhere. Its not a case of those ships being able to keep up (they're designed to sail as a battlegroup to support the jewel in the crown), more something the USN would never do due to their doctrine.
Mechanically speaking running that length of time flat out would absolute wreck the propulsion plant (not the reactor) and lead at best to a very expensive and lengthy maintenance period.
As I said in an earlier post, she'll be in Guam with the rest of her BG due to an emphasis on trying to balance the covid issue with operational requirements.
Worst comes to the worst, they can then cram everyone back onboard, get any replacements flown into guam and deploy to their station if the brown stuff hits the fan.
Sure, of course they did. How else do you expect the deep state to act other than by discrediting him? Personally I think he's right on the money. I like how that wicki entry acts like this is ancient historyFrom wikipedia....
If things get hairy for me I can always neck a bottle of my mums vitamin D and get my hair dryer out of mothballs.

Well the "deep state" dont really need to work hard to discredit him when he's so good at doing it himself.
This is a very brilliant enemy. You know, it’s a brilliant enemy. They develop drugs like the antibiotics. You see it. Antibiotics used to solve every problem. Now one of the biggest problems the world has is the germ has gotten so brilliant that the antibiotic can’t keep up with it.
I guess when your education comes from reading wicki blurbs you can be forgiven for thinking the way you doWell the "deep state" dont really need to work hard to discredit him when he's so good at doing it himself.
I think we're probably a few pages away from a YT video claiming all those dead and dying are crisis actors.
Says the dude offering up video interviews with people claiming shoving a hair dryer up your nose will get rid of Corona.
I'm fairly confident that the mods have forsaken us at this pointI enjoy it when he attacks other people's educational background. You know you are just one question away from a mod's intervention.![]()
