Wireless and Wired VR in Elite Dangerous

Heh,
For those with an Oculus Quest here are a few videos about playing ED wireless and wired using Virtual Desktop & the newish Oculus Link cable. One is purely subjective, the other an attempt at a quantitative approach at streaming video quality. Let me know what you think :)

Looks very promising but... Are there minimum system requirements for Virtual Desktop in combination with the Oculus Quest? On the vrdesktop homepage, there are 2 versions, the PC version and the Mobile Version. Can you play Elite Dangerous with the Mobile version? I'm laying ED for years now with a NVIDIA GTX950m and according to the vrdesktop homepage should any NVIDIA work for the Mobile Version.

You're playing in VR on a 950M? I only ask because I have a laptop with a GTX970M and it never occured to me that EDVR might work.

I acutally wanted to know if it was possible. I did some testing after I have posted previous post to test if streaming would work. Changed settings to resolution 1920x1080, 2x anti-aliasing, and 3D (for red-blue glasses) + disabled shadows. On my GTX950M the framerate dropped to 20fps. Conclusion: it will not work on my GPU. A 970 has much better performance. Maybe that will work.

I use an Oculus Go connected to the 5g wireless network in the house. Runs smooth as non VR.

The key is to make sure you have a 5g connection. I tried with the 2g wireless and lag, stutter and artifacts all over the place....

If I could afford a good 5G handset right now, I'd put that money on a PiMax 8KX instead :ROFLMAO: :geek:

I am going to give that a go. My 970M is OC'd to scrape 980M speeds in benchmarks so this might be interesting..
