A new and modest energy weapon.

Energy weapons such as beam, pulse, burst lasers alway fascinated me. How about adding one more? Th idea is simple. It would be a powefull beam weapon, more than the others (or almost in some case) but require to charge a moment in order to deliver it’s massive blow. I don’t know for you commanders, but it look to be simple and modest.

What differentiates it from the railgun in terms of gameplay and strategy? Besides not using ammo.
it would require a greater charing time to fire a powerful, continuous beam for maybe around 2-3 seconds, with the choice to have it gimballed or even turreted. a perfect weapon to get rid of smaller ships like eagle, sidewinders.

Could be interesting, especially if there's some visual indicator for an observant opponent to identify when an attack is charging, giving them a chance to evade.

1. Op there is a weapon that functions similarly how you describe look up the guardian plasma chargers.

2. I think Op means an artillery grade laser cannon like this:

Excellent idea.

How about a meson gun?

High-tech weapon that creates high energy mesons and directs them at targets. The collision of an electron and a positron creates a pi neutral meson. Mesons have short lives, which can be prolonged to precise duration by accelerating them to relativistic speeds. Range is set by varying the velocity of the mesons.

Mesons can pass through armor and matter without resistance. They do not interact significantly with other particles, and matter is therefore transparent to them. However, in a short time mesons decay into high-energy particles which do interact. If the point of decay is manipulated to occur inside the target ship, the result is high energy explosions and radiation damage. In a meson beam, the mesons travel to their target where they decay and release a large amount of energy.

That would upset everyone with hull tanks! Lol!

it sound interesting, but a bit complicated, no?

Complicated in what way? Producing the mesons AFAIK is relatively easy. The clever but comes in getting the velocity and subsequent decay time right. That would need sophisticated computation and sensors to predict the targets range at the point of decay. But this is the 34th Century and we have computers that can plot a hyperspace jump across 100’s of light years and drop you right in front of the main star and not take a 1,000 years to do it. So I can’t see that being a problem. To be balanced in the game it would have to do minimal damage to shields, so the opposite of lasers. The biggest problem would be the howls of protest from the hull tanking community once they realise that after their shields go down they are toast. One could mitigate that a bit by giving module reinforcements a degree of internal shielding potential. I would think there would be a charge up time for the gun to get ready to produce a large number of mesons in one go.

Thermal conduit is a flat 60% damage buff as soon as you break 100% heat; it's far from pants. If anything it needs to be nerfed because it's become the de facto pvp meta.

60%? Are you sure? I thought it reduces DPS below 100% and only gives you a 10% boost above.
