Ongoing playthrough of the original Elite (ZX Spectrum) Circa 1985

Folks. You may be interested in my retro 8 bit ZX Spectrum twitch stream (which was enjoyed by many as part of vECM). In response to community suggestions I'm turning it into a regular feature during lockdown on Saturdays.

I'll be playing the original Elite on the ZX Spectrum and working my way up, the objective being to achieve Elite and trigger the 4 ZX Spectrum missions (which as far as I can determine haven't been caught on twitch/youtube before).

Why the ZX Spectrum? Because it's the computer I had a kid, so it's a nostalgia fest for me too. :)

Watch me wrestle with the first game in the Elite Dangerous saga and see where the adventures began.

I enjoyed your trip into yesteryear so I’ll be tuning in - the last stream inspired me to start my own game again (although I started on the Electron the bulk of my time was Speccy Elite) but I’ve decided to use the modded version for the Spectrum128k that came out in ‘93.

There are quite a few interesting new features added to the original, “Elite 3” for the curious.

I’m also still on my continuing game of engines-off FE2 (inspired by Isinona) where I’m currently at “Competent”.

Now there’s a thought - how many Commanders have septuple Elite? :D

One thing you will notice how hard it was, npcs definitely got harder as you progressed.
And the rush to get to the safe zone of the station I really miss, especially since fdev made us drop out of supercruise 8km away from stations. I wish it was like it once was 15 to 20kms out.
Anyways enjoy the old challenging none safe dangerous game.. lol

I do have my original Spectrum and the original boxed game and both work, unfortunately I don't have a TV/Monitor which is compatible with the Spectrum at the moment so I can't stream it that way - so I'm using the Spectaculator 8.0 application for emulation. (Stock 48k settings)

Aim is to get to Elite (6400 kills) and trigger the Soectrum missions for posterity: supernova, cloaking device, thargoud plans and thargoid invasion.
