Engineers Colonia Engineer Blueprint Pinning

I am in the process of unlocking the engineers near Colonia. If I understand it, these engineers were introduced to Elite as grade 1. As players used their services the grades of modification each is capable of improved. As a result many can now do G5 and other intermediate levels. So any blueprint they cannot currently do at G5 can, and probably will, eventually be G5. Just takes time. Does it still work this way?

So my question is what happens if I choose to pin a blueprint that the engineer cannot do to G5 now, but later reaches this level?

For example I have unlocked Petra and gotten to grade 5 access. She can mod AFMUs but only to G3 currently. If I pin that, and later her level increases to G5 AFMU, will I have G5 remotely? I know I have to have G5 access for that to work, which I do. But is the grade increased retroactively and remotely as the engineer improves from the time the blueprint is pinned?

There's every chance this will be my only trip here and I want to be sure I make the best choices for which I pin whilst out here. For what it's worth I will not be pininng AFMU blueprints, just an example. Out of curiosity, which pins did others choose around Colonia?

My question is, why on earth would you pin AFMU from Petra and not lightweight armor or heavy duty hull reinforcements? Seems like a complete waste of a blueprint pin to me.

As I said I won't be pinning AFMUs, it was just an example of a blueprint that Petra doesn't currently do to G5.

I chose to pin heavy-duty HRPs while I was there. I actually have the same one pinned at the moment for Selene Jean, but this can be changed when I return to the bubble. The important thing is to pin some of my most-used ones out here since they cannot be easily changed. I'm just asking how it works with the engineers that can improve their current abilities.

I just got the osmium and will be unlocking Marsha Hicks shortly. Knowing whether my remote access scales with the engineer as he/she improves might lead me to choosing a different blueprint to pin while I'm here. Otherwise I'll just go with what they can currently do to G5.

Thanks man, that's what I want to know. Does anyone know for certain?

I unlocked Marsha Hicks and pinned overcharged multi-cannons which is one of my most-used. I also have this pinned with the Blaster. His other G5 is rails which I don't use, so this doesn't really free him up for anything. Petra's other blueprints (limpet controllers, fuel scoop, frags) are not ones I want to pin really. I can always reconsider up to the time I set sail back to the bubble.

I haven't unlocked the engineers in Colonia, so I can't help with your question, sry.
But I have read two or three times about pinned blueprints which unpins.
Don't sure if there is a bug at all or a workaround for it, but thought you should know if you don't plan to return to Colonia. :)

Yep, Pin a blueprint at whatlevel it has now and if it will gain new ranks you will automatically have them.
For example i pinned G4 Overcharged multicannons at Marsha. She then got upgraded to G5 and now i too benefit from G5 for remote engineering

Thanks for reading right through to the end...
Gnihihihi 🤣

Also I think what Paul and Northpin said.

Thanks Northpin, I appreciate the confirmation. It may not actually come in handy as so far I've unlocked three and pinned their G5 blueprints at each. But knowing this does help all the same. I pinned Thermal Resist at Mel Brandon's. What a fantastic engineer. I'd love to be able to pay him to move to my home system. Best engineer in Elite.

For what it's worth, I couldn't get an answer to this either and only pinned things that were already at G5 with the exception of SCB's because I didn't want to take the chance.

That's great to know. There was no info on this when I did it a year ago on Xbox. I'm about to go out there soon on PC.

I got them all unlocked and blueprints pinned. In the end I could have saved everyone the trouble of answering me as there's a reason certain blueprints are still under G5 in Colonia. It's because they are the ones few people use. I went all G5 in the end. But it's good to know how it works and thanks for the replies.

I had asked earlier which blueprints other commanders had chosen to pin in Colonia. Just out of curiosity, as each player is different, and I'd find the info interesting.

In the end I went with

Petra : Heavy-Duty HRPs. This is easily one of my most-used blueprints. HRP resistance stacking is one of the key parts of my combat builds. An armor blueprint would have worked too. But I reasoned armor is only done once per ship, and I can get that done when doing the tour to apply experimentals on a newly-bought ship. Selene Jean also has HD HRP pinned, so I can swap her over to heavy-duty or lightweight armor now.

Marsha Hicks : On my first visit to unlock her I pinned overcharged multi-cannons, but before leaving Colonia I changed it to lightweight collector limpet controller. The reason is the Blaster has no other blueprint I want to pin, so setting Marsha to do OC MCs doesn't free him up for anything useful for me.

Mel Brandon : So many great choices, hard to go wrong with this engineer. I chose to pin Thermal Resist shields. I now have three pinned shield blueprints, with Lei Chung doing reinforced and Elvira on ELP , but only to G3. Thermal resist is my most-used, but I have ships using all three.

Etienne Dorn : I pinned overcharged power plants. I use this quite a bit, just a grade or two usually. It's perfect for builds using undersized power plants as most of my ships do. Hera Tani also has this pinned and I will now swap her over to G5 probe radius.

It's a long way to go to add four pins, Colonia. But I'm very glad to have done this. My remote engineering options are expanded and I will have virtually every blueprint I use pinned after getting back and making some final adjustments.

Exit the game and test if it works (if the blueprints stay pinned), before going back!
But good choices. As a Colonia resident I really love how close all 4 are, so I finish a new ship in an hour nowadays, using some pinned bubble blueprints and mostly the Colonia ones.

I did and they did, but good tip. Not sure if it will stick though and I'm not coming back for a while!

Yeah the Colonia region is nice, every engineer and mat traders's within one jump
