The MkIV Viper [The Pilot]

Besides being a fantastic small multi role and a not bad explorer ship - Mark IV is a solid combat ship, but requires solid engineer approach. Thing worth nothing, one federal squadron flies mk4's exclusively, they used to harass Cubeo some thime ago (google "elite viper blockade of cubeo" for materials)
Nevertheless... Pros - hull, hull, hull. Internals good for multirole, decent jump range, good hardpoint placement, not bad shield with perspectives for tanking.

Here is my shieldless brawler. Force shells + rails, fun in pvp. Without mrp hull goes up to 4000 which is INSANE for a small ship. I decided for single mrp, it gives extra toughness for weapons, because weapon systems are most prone to take damage in MK4 and especially small those small hardpoints, mediums are usually safe due to being positioned on the belly side. If you want that 4000 hull points simply dump the mrp and engineer your weapons towards sturdy and it is not that bad as weapons get extra piercing damage plus lowered heat production which is invaluable in silent running. https://s.orbis.zone/6jj6

Another of my propositions comes with an enhanced shield. Good for a haz res fun. Just slap any weapons and have a blast. Acceptable recharge rates and SCB in case you need a quick boost. Tough enough to survive pvp interdiction and hi waking. https://s.orbis.zone/6jjn
Think I know what I'm going to build next. That 4k hull sounds intriguing.

Ooooh, goodie. A vid on one of my favourite ships ever. I’ve got an extremely fast, high jumping MKIII as a bubble taxi but I’m always jumping into a MKIV for some combat fun.

I just wish I could repaint the interior HUD area, it looks like a rusty old washing machine drum.

A tough cookie.

I run bi weaves in the size 3 slot on both my viper mk4s. One is a tank, with shortrange rails and plasma, and a ton of armour and module protection. Even with a shielded fsd, this thing will still pull 20ly jumps. The other is my corsair. 32t of cargo, with good armour. Makes me lots of money, and puts a smile on my face flying it. I am seriously thinking of buying a 3rd as my exploration vessel of choice. My number one ship in the game. Just great all round.

I was counting on you to demand a Viper MkIV ship kit! My turn I guess.

Where's the ship kit for the best ship in the game, Frontier!?

Can't watch vid now unfortunately, will later though.

It has a ship kit?

It's obviously a Mk III with a ship kit.
You want a ship kit for your ship kit?

;)

So, you do ship reviews. Well, the FC is a ship available in the game.

Can't wait for your review on the FC?...

His review on the FC technically exists. Look up livestreams with Commander Exigeous (or Yamiks, Plater, Cannon)...they discussed the beta. Good stuff!

If you want a TL;DR...

Pilot wants to be able to steal your carrier rather than it be decommissioned. Because that would be fun.
Which is to say, he hates the existing mechanics surrounding them and thinks they are pointless. Nifty, but pointless.
I think his words were, "I'm not excited for something I should be excited for", but I'm probably quoting that wrong.

(Feel free to correct me, Pilot)

Best looking ship in game INHO, second is the Python.
But if you look at the Viper 3 individual Ship kit part there are some nice parts that i think could work well with the Viper 4. A little flare here and there.
Of course Frontier would have to change one or two aspect of the Viper3 Ship kit for the Viper4. So some creativity and originality would be warranted and appreciated.
Ive always thought the viper 4 looked like a mini python too. Mine's name is actually 'Tiny Python'

and those lateral thrusters!
Legit one of a very small number of ships in the game that actually has good ones. I've been mortified so many times when a ship is described to me as having good lateral thrusters, only to try it out and find it sides around like an ice skater with no blades.

That accurate enough.

Mothballing is better than a decommission. But a salvaging mechanic for a mothballed carrier is even better.

I want to stumble on someone's mothballed carrier and turn it back on.

I'm all for mothballing (have a thread on it, actually, as do many others).
I wince a little at carrier theft, but the EVE bittervet howls "ARG, YAR!" in agreement.

shrugs

I'll put it this way: if that became a mechanic (theft of carrier), I'm not going to protest.
Just might sleep less if I owned one.

But, at this rate, I don't anticipate that issue...and, as you already said, if that was a mechanic it's likely all I would do.
I really miss piracy in EVE sometimes. I sucked at it, but it was damn good fun and made for many laughs on both sides.

Vipers always used to be police ships so the Viper IV is something like ...

The Viper always looks like the kind of fighter your SLF should really be and one you'd want to remain in whilst your expensive crew sits on their behind and does loops in your ship.
