How accurate are our local numbers?
Pathologist from the main hospital dropped in to collect the PPE from University Engineering.
They are doing ZERO autopsies on anybody who died with a respiratory ailment, and diverting their disposables to A & E. The guy told me one of his colleagues just died in the UK. Work exposure, to body fluids? Maybe.
So is there community spread locally, that we cannot see because of test shortage?
People would be dying, right? He's not seeing them as an increase in the morgues. So that is good.

As we in the west start to enter a new phase of the pandemic, can we look to the future and see any safe place?
The virus spreads over the world, x number of people die but most people will live, but what sort of world will we have?
The economics are mind blowing, and who knows how many more will die from starvation / unrest.
But surely this is an opportunity?
Without being political, I think I can quite safely say that the majority though not all, of our world leaders are crap.
How can we make the world a safer place for our kids and grand kids?
The stark impact of our way of life is laid bare by this pandemic, will we simply forget?
call me whatever, but I’ve been seeking more meaning in my career over the last few years, wondering if maybe It’s just me getting older, and has every generation worried in this way.
But unlike every other generation where we have provided a better world for our kids, I think this generation is different.
I guess voting helps, but I doubt it will be sufficient.
I try to be optimistic, but oh man, humanity!

The hardest part of realizing an illusion is that you suddenly see everyone else still running around in it.
Most of my career has been about illusion- digital/special effects/magic/software sims, and I’ve learnt how easy it is to manipulate our oh so simple brains into believing stuff that isn’t.
There’s good reason physiologically, our brains can’t cope with processing everything, and therefore takes shortcuts to render what we sense to our brains in a way that simply stops us being eaten or falling off a cliff in order to survive and breed.
The millions of individual cells in our body all working together to carry our lump of grey matter and ID around is simply amazing, it’s laughable how short sighted we are though.
I’ve been watching in interest the development of machine learning - it’s pretty scarey how easily this can be used to control us.

This is an interesting graph. It suggests that deaths could be 4 times worse in certain countries that are thinking about releasing lockdown measures.

The lockdown release ought to be much more contingent on the attack rate than the per capita death rate. Maybe that is the reason?

That is because it looks at reported covid deaths rather than excess mortality. Belgium, for example, does somewhat better than the Netherlands but twice as bad in your graph. Comparing reported deaths is meaningless.

Especially in here at this time we need to be charitable. Please consider what you are posting.
While all reported stats have to be taken with a grain of salt, it is interesting to note that when comparing Europe with the USA, mortality rate seems nearly identical (~160/million). There is an odd difference in the trends though: with europe showing a sharp increase, following by a gradual reduction in daily fatalities/new cases, with the US pretty much hitting peak in early April and simply not changing since either way. A sign measures work and they are preventing a worse peak? A sign measures don't work and the fall-off isn't happening? Maybe simply a sign that they are hitting test capacity and fail to remedy that? Who knows.
The whole 5g thing baffles me. It could be worse, people could be dunking witches but it’s the same sort of thing I reckon.
