Retrospective on Salomé event, 3 years on.

This day in 2017, Salomé, one of my most memorable fictional characters, was killed in an online event in Elite Dangerous. It's now part of the 'old' lore of the game. There's lots of myth, rumour and nonsense floating about on the internet about this, so If you'd like to know what actually went down on that day it's all analysed here in great detail, with CMDR Harry Potter himself in the chat.

Cheers,

Drew.

During this "episode" (all the events leading up to it, the chase, even the surreal funeral), we transcended the inherent limits of this game. It was an amazing experience.

It would be amazing to run another story like this. Would you still be interested in something like that Drew, or was once enough?

I'd love to see this happen more, but the way the game is built, it's hardly a possibility. Shame, it must've been an epic occurrence, made purely by the players ;,(

The game's instancing prevents more than a small handful of players from participating directly. And those that had Salome added as a 'friend' could see where the character was at all times, everyone else would just have to guess, leaving the 'friends' with a huge advantage.

Still, it was certainly entertaining back then, as I participated regardless.

I think the storytelling potential is there, if Drew wanted to play DM again and Frontier would let him. There's a good number of people who are starving for a good story that picks up where Premonition left off. But as far as a single event occurring in game? The game was barely able to handle it, and even then there were crashes and instancing issues.

The thing that always irked me about Salami was the way so many people made so many bad decisions - regardless of whether they were "scripted" or not.
Seems like members of the groups involved should have considered that they had a lot (in terms of trust and respect) to lose but not much to gain.

Still, all water under the bridge and the idea, itself, was absolutely epic. (y)

Glad to see that you are doing fine Drew. I hope that you may one day reconsider creating stories for the game again. I missed the Salome event, I sure wish I hadn't. Maybe the outcome would have been different.

Take care. o7

I was in the game during these times but had no knowledge of this event (didn't know these forums existed) so was totally unaware but would have loved to of been a part of what sounded like an epic event.

Have found the original threads regarding it and read everything about it and that boy wizard was a bit of a toerag weren't he :ROFLMAO:

Can we somehow convince you and FD to make a comeback happen?

Loren's Reapers still carry the fire.

Quite stylishly too, I might add.

I joined the galaxy about 5 months after this event. Was Loren's Reapers helping Salami or trying to kill her?

They were called Loren's Legion at the time. Based out of the Prism system, Kahina's home. IIRC, they and Children of Raxxla made up the two player groups at the core of the event. Isaiah was Deputy Wing Commander and flew on Drew's protection wing.

I was with Newton's Fusiliers. Being a XBOX group, we helped out our character Yuri Nakamura.
