Throttle and typing issues- PC version - x52 hotas

About a month ago, I started to have throttle issues, in as the throttle would act on its own accord, in both going to maximum throttle or closing completely whilst in supercruise. A royal pain in the posterior, particularly when approaching a station in SC. It has not happened in normal space since I started to validate the files.

At first I was convinced that it was a voice attack issue, who advised me to re do all my bindings and ensure it was set to 10% ( which I did to no avail ) it continues to do the same whether VA is actually turned on or off.

I have tried to re validate the files several times, each time it checks the version, downloads a manifest and then downloads a small file update ( but don't know what or whether it actually installs anything )

I am finding this issue very difficult to pin down, apart from above I have re done my keybinds on at least 2 occasions over the last few weeks.

I am at the stage now where unless I can fix this I will have to do a complete uninstall of of ED , and start again.

Today I ran a dxdiag report, and these issues are being reported, Im not savvy enough to know what they mean.

The other issue I have, if I open comms, and try to type a message, it simply doesn't type, yet I can type in the galmap. Also when I press Esc, it should take me to the game menu, however it is minimising ED and puts me on my desktop .

Has anyone else had similar issues ? or if any of this great community can offer any advice, Im all ears

What hardware are you using? What software does that run?

Your in the PC section but a fault says;
'Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay ' ?

Also, when you press 'esc' what happens if you then press alt+tab? Does the game pop back up, is it in the esc menu? Does esc take you back to desktop again?

i haven’t actually got an xbox1, I do have a PS4 but it’s connected independently from my pc. So I’m not sure where or what that overlay is , except I installed the market connector off github. I believe that has an overlay.?

Im not really understanding your question about hardware and software, are you referring to my mobo ? and OS ?

I’m definitely using a 64bit 3.7Ghtz ( old and slow ) with Win 10 pro , 8gb ram with a nvdia 6gb mini , which runs just fine in other applications.

yes when I alt tab, I then get the desktop apps that are open

hope this helps

don't thnik its direct x related as if it was the game would not run at all
try renaming your binds this will eliminate any chance of a confused bind file details in post five 3 steps here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...t-every-time-i-enter-the-controls-tab.507856/
but this does seem to be a badly configured throttle bindings what method of control are you using keyboard an mouse etc?

as for 'Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay
  • Open the Settings app. You can do that quickly with Windows Key + I shortcut.
  • Head over to the Gaming section.

  • Select Game bar from the menu on the left and disable Record game clips, screenshots and broadcasting using Game bar option.

now I am just plain confused, I was replying to the op namely wizzy timeless do you have the same problem then?

I had this exact problem. By default, Windows sets the microphone volume to 80%, so it picks up ambient noise and VA tries to interpret it. I used control panel to lower it to 10% when I played ED (It resets whenever the game reloads) and later wrote an AutoHotKey script to do everything for me.

if you set the mic level manually where you train for speech recognition and first setup the microphone that is where that default 80% level comes from why not just change that to your prefrence?

i use VA and have no current issues. i have in the past had issues with key presses. in VA turn keyboard shortcuts off.
this caused no response when command was issued, because key was not being pressed.
you stated that it also happens when VA isnt running.
is your KB wired. make sure its working correctly. battery powered make sure enough charge.
test another controller. remove hotas and use kb or alternative to test the game.
remove drivers for hotas, remove from system, reboot and insert hotas and test again.
as others have said ambient noise could be the issue. i have tested various mufflers and found that a double wrapping of a cotton sock over the mouth piece sorted it out

Update

I tried the disabling of the game overlay. There was an Xbox option to show some shortcuts to various media sharing options. This is now disabled. It did appear to work initially as when I logged in I typed a comms message in and it was perfect.

I tried pressing the esc button, and that took me to the elite game menu perfectly.

I went about my business then when I went into super cruise I pressed my number button 3 which is mapped to 75% throttle , on 3 occasions in the 2k Sc flight to the station the throttle went to 100% completely on its own accord. VA was not even switched on . Even more frustrating is that as I get close to the drop out distance the throttle would zero on its own ..This does not happen in normal space. The throttle behaves exactly as it should do either by VA % commands OR of manual use of my hotas throttle .

I landed my ship, and went to log out via the esc key . The game minimised , I clicked on the client tab on my task bar to re focus my game and tried to type a message in comms. The message tab was not inputting the text ARRRGH .

So my final analysis must be that somewhere my game files are getting corrupted as I play the game. When I logged off last night I re validated my game files, and yes it Appeared to send me a small file.

I will try playing again today, if I get the same errors , I will do as suggested with the hotas, clear all the files. unplug it and re install the game and new driver install for the x52 pro. Although I’m not convinced it’s an input issue as it has always worked perfectly in the gal map.

As a side point, I haven’t had any recognition issues with VA . I use a Logitech Artemis 933 wireless with surround sound , I Love the 7.1 cinematic sound through the headphones, and the mic is fine dealing with noisy environments, although sometimes I have to talk loudly if 2-3 other people are in the room. Otherwise I can practically whisper and VA hears me clearly.

As another side note, I’m currently using an old Tv as a monitor that has terrible refresh rates 30htz , not ideal at all. My new monitor arrives tomorrow a 31” curved 144htz refresh jobby .

I would like to thank everyone for their comments, I will now wait until I have done the points above and installed my new monitor and test again. In the meantime I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.

Cheers

in elite control options tab for flight throttle have you tried toggling from forward only to full range or vice versa?
as that could explain sudden speed change

Hi again Strontium, I got the x52pro for Christmas, before that had a T16000M which I had set to full range because I modded the throttle to put in a magnetic indent in at zero rpm . The x52 pro does not have a mechanical indent and is too new for me to start modding it. So it’s been set to Fwd only with the reverse being set by a spare button .

I’m hoping a full re installation of elite will fix my issues, the only thing I was thinking of saving is my latest binds file. But I’m thinking it would be better to simply start again . Then I’d be sure it was a clean fresh start.

would you agree this a reasonable course of action, or are there any other options I could try ?

yes the only thing that effects control is the bindings folder
as mentioned in my guide(post 5 of link) rather than full reinstall as mentioned in post under NB
you can take your current binds folder out like a set of car keys and store wherever you like but not inside the frontier folders
(real fighter jet pilots have whats known as a flight brick which is basically the same thing) (that way they can jump in any aircraft and be good to go)
Upon game restart because the keys"flight brick"(bindings folder) are missing it will create a new default bindings folder for testing (new pilots personal flight brick or"set of keys")
you can replace this anytime by putting your old folder(flight brick) back and restarting the game
(renaming the files as instructed within any flight brick will prevent the game from auto overwrite of that pilots brick which in our case is the bindings folder)

That’s genius level 😀..I certainly would never have thought of that ..I have saved my custom binds file in a separate location.

i will delete the complete binds folder, do a restart then re validate my files. As you suggested it should restore it to default .

You just saved me a 30gb+ download...thanks Cmdr..you are a clever dog 😂

The Xbox gaming overlay is part of Windows 10 now. You activate it by pressing the Windows key plus G. It has a lot of useful features, so worth exploring if you haven't used it before.

barking level maybe ,hope ya sort it tail wags!
(you wont even need to revaldate as the pilots brick is actually regenerated by in game source code(aircraft read only memory chip) just a game restart after removing any brick will do)

Look in your keybindings and delete any keys that set 0% or 100% throttle, then try it with just the throttle to set the speed. if that solves it, you'll know that the game was getting spurious key signals to change the throttle. It shouldn't take long to figure out why.

if it happens with the above advice in play I would look at getting a mains powered usb hub as a ghost input from the stick itself is a sign of volts drop across the device
or power save if you have lights on the hotas you can switch off
