I won't harp on you guys for having to delay the release. These are wild and crazy times, and working from home, as fun as it sounds, isn't exactly a massive boost in productivity and collaboration. Take all the time you need to make sure whatever this update will entail is both polished, ready, and enjoyable.
However, I will say this. It might be time, or close to it, to clue your players and fans into what is actually coming down the pipe for early 2021. Fleet carriers and cool and all, but their current implementation appeals to only a select portion of the player base and others my see them more as a shiny drain on their credits that further leaves them desperate for content. I say this for the sake of the game, by the way, because despite playing other games such as NMS.. Elite really is a fantastic one of kind VR experience that touches on a lo-sci-fi note in a state of completeness and polish that no other game can compare for me and probably others. I don't want to see player numbers dwindle and the game to stagnate and eventually shutter due to a lack of interest and a shrinking playerbase. Early 2021 is a long time away for those without a desire to play around with the new carriers with nothing to really sink their teeth into.
At least a better understanding and reasonably set expectation of what they can look forward to may keep their interest in the game such that they keep playing or, if they leave, make a note to come back when the big update drops. I'd rather that, then having them finally give up and move onto to something, forgetting to even bother checking in on the new DLC when it's announced. You may not want to spoil everything, nor reveal ideas that may not make it into the release, but something is better than nothing for those who want to be in it for the long haul.
