News Community Update (01/05)

I won't harp on you guys for having to delay the release. These are wild and crazy times, and working from home, as fun as it sounds, isn't exactly a massive boost in productivity and collaboration. Take all the time you need to make sure whatever this update will entail is both polished, ready, and enjoyable.

However, I will say this. It might be time, or close to it, to clue your players and fans into what is actually coming down the pipe for early 2021. Fleet carriers and cool and all, but their current implementation appeals to only a select portion of the player base and others my see them more as a shiny drain on their credits that further leaves them desperate for content. I say this for the sake of the game, by the way, because despite playing other games such as NMS.. Elite really is a fantastic one of kind VR experience that touches on a lo-sci-fi note in a state of completeness and polish that no other game can compare for me and probably others. I don't want to see player numbers dwindle and the game to stagnate and eventually shutter due to a lack of interest and a shrinking playerbase. Early 2021 is a long time away for those without a desire to play around with the new carriers with nothing to really sink their teeth into.

At least a better understanding and reasonably set expectation of what they can look forward to may keep their interest in the game such that they keep playing or, if they leave, make a note to come back when the big update drops. I'd rather that, then having them finally give up and move onto to something, forgetting to even bother checking in on the new DLC when it's announced. You may not want to spoil everything, nor reveal ideas that may not make it into the release, but something is better than nothing for those who want to be in it for the long haul.

A delay was to be expected to be honest..

However Frontier... im sure all of us would love to see some sniff of what you are working on. Please give us a preview soon.

I have various floating concerns and interests in my life right now and in that concern cloud the next major ED update is one highlighted in Gold sprinkles, Lick on stars and diligently placed patterns of Tortiglioni.

You gotta throw us a bone, some time soon.

Hang on, since me and my colleges have been working from home productivity has been through the roof. Without the encumbrance of commuting and needless in-office discussions our company has 'seen the future' and are moving to making working from home the norm. I'd take a long hard look at anyone who works sedentary, but isn't 'producing' during this this COVID-19 pandemic... 🧐
Seriously FDev, give the workers the equipment and support to work from home and you'll see the rewards!
We've had the same t hing for the same reason. Oy I love that the office isn't freezing, I am not interrupted every 10 minutes, part of a meeting going on in the next cube over, etc. etc. Would love for this to be at least integrated into any new normal but I don't think it will be. Where I work is highly traditional.

But each office situation is different. So I'm not too terribly bothered.

Ahhhhh, make games using computers!?!? That type of work can be done from home with the right support (equipment), right access to servers, but I must admit it would be limited by the internet and company security policies. With just a little enginuity, much can be achieved working from home...
It may be more like the problem long dark has. You need to be in studio to get voice acting and actors animated.

Could not agree more with this post, it’s way pst time they clued us in!

There is something concrete they could do to bring in new customers during the delay.

Cut the prices in half. Steam and Humble have done 70% off sales, and Frontier is still in business.

You didn't see the recent regular discount sales of Elite Dangerous and Horizons, its cosmetics, and FDev's other games?

Greetings Commanders,

Today, we wanted to share an update with you all regarding the on-going development of Elite Dangerous.

Despite transitioning as a company to work from home during these challenging times, we're still committed to providing the best possible support, development and updates for the game and for our community. We've launched the first Fleet Carriers beta and are now busy working on the second installment coming in May. This second beta will be opening its hangars not only to PC Commanders, but also those on console for the first time! Everything is still on track to bring Fleet Carriers to the live servers in June.

However, during this uncertain period, we've also had to re-examine our longer term roadmap and make some adjustments. To ensure that we can bring you an incredible new Elite Dangerous experience without compromising the team who work at Frontier, the Next Era release date will move slightly from December 2020 to early 2021.

We haven't made this shift lightly, but it has been made with both the team and the game's best interest at heart. We know that many of you are eager to hear more about the Next Era of Elite Dangerous and, despite this shift in release date, our schedule to bring you news and details about the future hasn't changed, so keep an eye on all of our channels for more information in the coming months!

Thank you everyone for your patience, understanding and generally being an awesome and passionate community!

Stay safe and keep supporting each other,

o7

safety is the most important thing , no question about that. This was obviously something we all expected given the current ongoing situation.

Meanwhile, I feel that Elite Dangerous has an immense potential for being a more engaging and fun game than it is today, but sadly Frontier chose to spend their time on Fleet Carriers which are , in my opinion, completely useless and add nothing new to the game. I would love to see more community driven events, more galaxy wide invasions, maybe like a large scale battlegrounds between the major factions. You know, you can do so much with what already is in the game. You don't need a paid DLC.
FDev has created a massive universe and a game with so many sub systems and so much potential, but sadly I feel like only 10% of it is actually being utilized.

Take any other major AAA MMO games, and you will see that there are always stuff going on. Raids, invasions, battlegrounds, weekly and monthly events, to keep the community engaged. There is ZERO of that in ED. The last major event was the Targoids. Since then the galaxy has been nothing more than a place for people to grind endlessly or gank noobs.

A very close relative work for a large software company. They found that working from home has indeed increased productivity and had significant cost savings as a result. If some employees are not meeting your targets (do you have KPI's?), then you should be looking at those individual employees and maybe think about replacing them or making sure they have the correct tools. I know it sounds harsh, but that's the new reality.

A concept art would be very pleasant.

:)
