I don’t know if you guys have seen the Facebook group that ‘recreate artwork with things you find at home’
The creativity is awesome! It also has helped a lot of people through these hard times. Highly recommend!
I guess it’s humanity’s optimism, ignorance, stubbornness and creativity that has got us through all types of difficulty through the millennia!

Thankfully we can rely on the scientists to lead us down the correct path...

Yes, you can rely on mathematicians to make mathematical models. They may not be particularly adept at decisions in their personal relations. While I understand anti-intellectuals relish the opportunity to attack an individual who demonstrably saved many lives, it's a bit weak to rage against a dude, completely symptom free, opening his front door to his lover.

Shouldn't have done it, but it's not on the same level as crowding together to demand haircuts...

Helpful leak for all those wanting the lockdown ended.
I’ll add it to Scotland’s chief medical officer (ex).
In the spirit of the thread I should probably just keep bringing it up as a cheap way of trying to discredit a viewpoint

edit.
oh, and as if by magic Ian pops up to prove the point, again and again

See, this is a good example of the sort of "political orthodoxy" that just becomes absurd.

Are we really saying that this whole "lockdown" thing is supposed to be completely black/white?
That there's absolutely no room for compromise at all?

If we are, we're ALL failing miserably.
The police are failing when they approach people in public, the public are failing when they pay for things in shops and all those people clapping on London Bridge were definitely failing last week - led by Cressida , chief of the met' police, herself.

Clearly anybody with half a brain should be willing to accept there are compromises to be made.
So, why would we insist on getting rid of a very smart guy who's probably going to be very useful to the government just cos his girlfriend visited him?

I despair at times, I really do. 😟

Indeed
I think both he and Scotland’s chief medical officer shouldn’t be forced to resign, but then I’ve been an advocate of an approach that has compromises. It’s others in this thread quick to jump to his support that have been preaching a path he has violated. Intellectuals are allowed double standards

My GF has her own apartment a few minutes walking from mine. I am allowed to go there, it's a logical exemption: any law saying you can't see your partner for an indeterminate period of time is going to broken anyway unless the risk is clearly significant. If it would be banned I'd take a mask and keep distance from others as I walk there, as long as I am symptom free the odds of infecting anyone during this tiny walk are next to zero.

Not demanding a haircut though.

Are you saying it’s logical that everyone can go meet a loved one or just those that have proved they are intelligent enough not to infect anyone

Honestly, there is more than 1 country in the World . And, it will probably amaze you, those countries may have set different rules . Where I live, through the entire "physical distancing/stay_at_home" phase we just went through, it was perfectly ok, allowed and not a problem for me and my Lady to meet in private ( we live apart ) .

It's not magic that I appear, it's called the internet. It allows me to type words that appear on your screen despite geographical inconveniences. Maybe ask some of the blokes you are trying to shame, pretty sure they grasp the basics.

Who cares, now is our time to finally laugh at a muddamuficiun, or whatever a fancy number wizard is called! Haha,he poopy pants! My brains bigly!

Bless you sir, you have very much put me in my place. You win, I doth my cap to you

Then you spoiled it by trying too hard

Idk man, people who despise scientists for what they are do not need anyone else to make them feel inferior . They are doing a perfectly fine job all by themselves . 🤡

The relief at watching Europe's numbers drop is offset by watching the Americans taking a running jump at the cliffside. That's going to end well for them.

Really thought we'd be watching Africa and India instead of that continent still.
They just went through the first round, and the pols learned doodleysquat.

🇹🇹 we are decanting in house medical staff to a secondary isolation hostel, as our units are mostly empty now. They will do a 14 day stay before going home.

I got an expired Foley catheter out of a crash cart, split it down, and edged a loose plastic mask today, between work. Works really well, except for the smell of rubber. It is the exact length needed.
Should be OK for extended wear, fits like my 3 M half mask respirator.
The soft rubber seal makes a BIG difference to quality.

The solution to this crap shouldn't be DIY. Most people cannot do that, are not trained to do it, don't have time or resources.

On the Roche Antibody Test :

I'd wait for WHO and ECDC findings .
Robert - Koch - Institute press briefing today . Could not find an english transskript, but the following medscape article reports Prof. Wieler's statement pretty precisely . Providing a google.translate link here, the english medscape version does not seem to have this article :

Section at bottom of page :

Have not seen information by WHO or ECDC yet .

The best possible thing would be a benign mutation. Mutation update here:

The gist of this report is a new strain (G clade) of SARS-CoV-2 emerged in Europe in February carrying the D614G mutation (among others), and has since overtaken the original Asian strain in many regions of the world due to its enhanced transmissibility

Unfortunately, not benign.
The dominant version now circulating is MORE infective. This means that more rigorous lockdowns will be needed than were originally required, just to stabilise the attack rate, and current model projections are undershooting the risks.

Maybe future mutations will help us out.

I agree.
I’m pretty confident that me and my partner could quite safely go and visit a nearby friend, sit on their garden wall and have a bottle of wine whilst chatting all very safely getting there and back and during.
But I guess the difficulty is that not everyone will be safe and it would be misused.
I mean, even now I’ve seen that the police have given up mostly trying to move people from my local park who are lying down because they start waving their arms about and say they are exercising!
No doubt the first lifting of restrictions will be to allow to ‘extend our bubble’ and I can’t wait to see our close friends.
edit: removed political bits on consideration of mods :)

When and how to enforce restrictions is a matter of contention.

That said, just leaving people alone until they start to bunch up has got to be better than having half-a-dozen police officers who aren't wearing any PPE start a melee, wrestle distancing violators to the ground, then drag them off to an overcrowded lockup where they'll be exposed to dozens of others during the few hours it takes for them to make bail.
