Are there many other women on here/playing Elite: Dangerous?

It's an old myth that science fiction is mostly for guys, this attitude is rooted in old social norms about science being a man's world.

But It's never been true. Back in the pulp era Gernsback was surprised to get so many letters from female readers, and a fair number of early sci-fi writers were women (usually writing under male names). In fact, the first sci-fi novel was written by a woman (Mary Shelley).

Women have always been a part of science and science fiction, but due to cultural barriers they've largely been invisible. Just as early female writers used male names, many female gamers use male avatars to avoid the same cultural bias. So it's likely that many women play this game, but they don't want to deal with the gender baggage.

I do have some fantastic knockers...on my front doors. I'm lucky enough to be a lady with two front doors, some might even say I'm a duchess.

...

All this cross-dressing aside though, @OP I do have several lady friends in the game, but the vast majority are [I am told] guys, so I think there is a big deviation towards guys. Some of the ladies in game are partners of male friends, so that is interesting too.

...

Now, pass me my umbrella please, it's simply stifling outside, and I dare not damage my meek complexion in this fierce sun...

The majority of responses in this thread being prime examples as to why they would not feel welcome here.

Yea, I was trying to look for the previous thread I had seen a while back asking a similar question, thinking it had gotten better responses more useful to the OP. Then I remembered that the OP ended up editting and wiping the body of the thread out because it devolved in a similar way.

Yep, I stand corrected. Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.

Makes me sad. OP asked a serious question and the thread was, and continues to be, completely derailed by people not giving the least bit of thought to the OP.
