At the start of lockdown I posted a pic of the ED splash screen and my T.Flight, ready to go... many of the guys from my previous life in IT all reminisced fondly of the original BBC B version that I grew up with.
One of my former tennis writers is almost inspired to get ED as a result of what I have been posting about it.
Friends have no issue with me being a female gamer - an ex-boyf actually saw me playing Christian Pinder's Elite: The New Kind, and then got me into playing Eve ... but thankfully that episode of madness came to an end (both the game and him!)
Back after about a five year gap...so nice to see I am not entirely alone!
Likewise! To all of the above. I'm glad some of the good I was hoping for came out of the thread.
Idk you sure have been in rapid response defense mode so it certainly appears that way. One would suggest that the OP has a keyboard and the ability to acknowledge this or not at their own discretion. Perhaps it would be wise to allow that.
Sure, I have a keyboard, but at a certain point in this thread (the first three or four pages, mainly) there were like ten people poking merry fun at me, the idea of women in games, and "women that are actually men hurhur I identify as an attack helicopter SJWs don't get political now". All that in response to me asking, quite reasonably, if there were any other women here. I don't think that's acceptable behaviour and I appreciated the apologies of some of those contributing, and I appreciated that some people didn't just ignore it and spoke up about what was right. It was a good thing and I appreciated it, filthymick420. I hope you'll see that from my point of view.
I don't think we should be singling people out based on gender or professed gender. Can we all just be cmdrs and have a laugh?? Maybe the cmdrs who identify as female don't want to be handed around in a list to others searching for women as well.. I dunno, it's all a bit silly, let's just have fun together and do space stuff!!
I would love that, but unfortunately not everyone in games is willing to just have fun together and do space stuff. Leaving aside the various extremely unsavoury and/or illegal conduct, it's not uncommon to be asked to show t*ts or gtfo, make someone a sammich, be called a little b*, wh, or a stuck up c***, etc. I could hide my gender and lie by omission, as I did when I was a girl playing Halo, but I don't think that's a particularly fair requirement for avoiding abuse. Instead I think a reasonable course of action is to just ask the community if there are any women around in the hopes of actually meeting some people who've been around the block and tackled these issues before you. I never asked for lists and of course I'm sorry to anyone who was mentioned and didn't want to be. From the people I was actually aiming this post at though I've gotten great responses, which is really encouraging.
Plus, in practice in a heavily male dominated environment, "No one talk about what gender they are because it makes people uncomfortable" becomes "Women don't mention that you're women or we'll make you uncomfortable".
Elite has given me thousands of hours of fun, I coulda spent that few quid on a snack or a pint down the pub.. also I love shiny things! I REGRET NOTHING!!
You'll find no judgement from me on if you choose to buy it of course, I just know that I can't handle it so I draw a line in the sand at a nice clean point, which is zero. For anyone who's had or thinks they could have a problem with gambling it can be a slippery slope, is all.
