Hardware & Technical X52 throttle

Greetings

On the X52 throttle there is a click when you push to full throttle, I presume this is for afterburner on flight sims.

Can I get that click to act as a boost button in ED and still have 100% throttle outside the click?

In a nutshell - no you can't - the "detent" on the throttle isnt actually mapped to anything, its a small piece of rubber that is on the joystick to give the impression of an afterburner detent - it has no way it can be mapped or used as you would expect. I opened my throttle up and removed it.. I have attached a link below, I followed this when I did it - was really very easy..

I should say the only reason I removed it was so that I had full smooth throttle when flying light aircraft in Flightsim - the constant clicking when trying to make small adjustments to throttle input was a real pain..

I don't know if that Saitek software allows for zones/bands, but if so you could have the first 90% of the throttle assigned as the throttle axis, and the last 10% made to generate the relevant keypress.

I actually like the detents. Top one seems to correspond with the sweet blue zone and the bottom one marks ideal final approach docking speed and full stop position. Almost feels like FD designed it that way.

Edit: yes you can split into zones and assign zone to button press which might work. But the would be clumsy to do a second boost...

If you're not concerned about voiding your warranty - you can buy a simple optoelectric USB switch, glue a tang onto your throttle internals - when it passes detent it can set off the (bindable) switch driver as hey hold or press.

It will mean another cable coming out of the thing though.

Exactly this. The detents are actually one of the reasons I went with the x52 HOTAS, and I haven't been disappointed.

Yes, though you could perhaps have a third band - a deadzone - around the detent area, so that after boosting you pull the throttle back to the detent, then push forward again for another boost. Moving the throttle from zero to the detent would I presume still result in 100% thrust. Not perfect but you'd soon develop the muscle memory.
