Newcomer / Intro Prepping for Felicity Farseer

At some stage I really need to figure out how to get the external ship shots!

Meanwhile next stop Dav’s Hope I suppose at the weekend!
That is predictably a whole suite of key binds in options, some enthusiastic photographers on PC use a separate games controller for them.

I am actually thinking of tweaking my bindings for driving the SRV because quite honestly... it was a learner-driver mess!!! I could barely get back in the ship... so god knows how I will manage if I send the ship away and recall it!

Ah... first thing, switch flight (drive) assist off. IIRC there's also a setting in the configuration to make this the default. Then the SRV will react like a car to the throttle.

So just been watching Dav's Hope and Bug Killer tutorials - so basically... a LOT of driving about (and indeed flying about)... and have I understood the Bob Lighthouse path right and maybe skip Flik and go straight to Martuuk (apologise for spelling)

It is Flic - or Madam Farseer to you. ;)

I do Deciat first, but I pin the G3 Dirty Drives with her - then I do El Virus and pin the G5 FSD increased range with her (her other stuff is meh).

I actually watched your vid on driving around Dav's - love the accent by the way - very soothing after being woken up by a tap-dancing fox outside at 5am!

Sorry time for a dense question (hah! when don't I)... what does it mean to pin a mod?

Thanks - (I hate the sound of my voice on recordings).

At each engineer you can "pin" one modification. These pinned modifications can be carried out at any station (Remote Workshop in Station Services) - only the modification, not an experimental effect.

So once I unlock (by carrying out) the G3 level Thruster modification of Dirty Drives at Flic - I "pin" that mod, which means that I can carry out up to G3 Dirty Drive on any ship thrusters in any station. That is why I then go to Elvira Martuuk and unlock G5 FSD increased range there and pin that mod with her as her other levels of modification to other modules is not very good.

You can when at an engineer pin one blueprint this allows you to engineer modules with that blueprint remotely at most stations, you can only pin one per engineer but where there are multiple engineers working on the same module you can have different blue prints pinned. When you engineer a module remotely you can only engineer it up to your level of access with the engineer where you pinned the blueprint or the maximum grade of the blueprint at that engineers, so if you have only level 1 access at Felicity and had pinned the Thrusters blueprint you could only remote engineer to G1 however if you had level 5 access with her you could only engineer the thrusters to G3 as that is the highest grade of that blueprint she does.
You cannot add experimental effects remotely.

Edit: Ninja’d as usual and with greater clarity also par for the course.

The advantage of pinning blueprints is you can get the experimental effects at any engineer that does engineering of that module even if it is only grade 1. This makes Felicity a very useful engineer as you can do the experimentals for FSD, thrusters, shield boosters and power plant in one stop. When remote engineering I generally find I only have to visit 2 sometimes 3 engineers to get all the experimentals done.
While you are practicing the SRV worth getting familiar with the radar display which helps you find surface rocks to prospect for raw engineering materials. Then of course there is using the weapons to kill skimmers and blast rocks apart. Try some of the “Covert“ data retrieval missions. A lot of the time you get attacked by the defences while trying to access the data point.

Just to be fair, once you unlock Palin and/or Sedesi, there is no reason to pin thrusters at Felicity. I usually keep Enhanced Low Power shields pinned at Martuuk and the FSD at Farseer.

The G3 Enhanced Low Power shield is a very useful blueprint to have around, shield uses less power and has less mass but is stronger all good news for almost all ship builds.

Ahh ok cool...

Correct but initially one would logically pin a G5 FSD at one on the girls and you might as well have G3 Dirty Drives available until you get around to doing the 5,000ly qualifying trip. I was addressing a non-engineered commander after all. ;) (It is the way I approach things after doing my clear-saves.)

However, yes your suggestion is eminently sensible once one gets to that point. (y)

EDIT: BTW - I have never been a fan of Enhanced Low Power shields - maybe I'll revisit them in light of the comments in this thread up to now I have pinned G3 clean drives with Flic once I get Palin sorted - might be time to change (I have never got around to / bothered unlocking Chloe on any account you see). ;)

I find the ELP shields very useful on exploration ships, both for the reduced mass and reduced power. The shields are essentially not there for any other reason than being a bumper buffer for planetary landings so just as small of a shield as possible will do. Sometimes doing full G5 will result in no shield, so G3 pinned is actually a quite good choice. Especially when the alternative pins do not add much.

I have not unlocked Chloe either ... ;)

I mean I haven't even plotted my route to Dav's Hope yet! That's how unengineered I am!
