Yes have that one on order, looking forwards to it. I suspect I will soon drift back to Paradox games though when I am not in deep space (Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings etc) as they seem so much deeper and more satisfying to me, though the learning curves are more like overhangs than cliffs...

My only concern is that it usally takes the first expansion to bring the Civ games to greatness

I haven't pre-ordered but am counting the days as well. I've played every single iteration of the series to date and have no plans to miss this one either. :)

Yeah i havnt missed any either, Civ5 was a slight disappointment, very buggy at beginning but then got better, not as deep in my opinion but still fun, and the change in combat was better.

If you like turn based games then this new one Endless Legend is looking good and very similar to Civ in style, getting good reviews

Received the game this morning and its excellent!...intro was worth watching at the beginning (great animations!) ....the game its self is gorgeous to look at, it has plenty of deep game-play as the old civs had but still easy to pick up quickly and get playing, i found it quite addictive and hard to turn off, definitely gets at least a 8/10 for the few hours i played.

I'm getting used to it, played Civ 5 to death. I'm finding the tech web confusing, because the technology names mean absolutely nothing to me, it's far less intuitive than Civ is. It's weird though I don't remember having this problem with Alpha Centauri. Potential, but I think it'll take me a while to get a handle on what's what.

And I'm playing 'Harmony' cos you know, Dune and all that.

Edit: Finished my first game, started again after I had some idea as to what I was doing and finished now (went for purity and the exodus gate). I'm still undecided if I like it or not. And the ending was a little disappointing. After the great intro, I was expecting some cinematic, but no, just the card and the options to go back to the main menu or 'one more turn'. I think it's because it's lacking that historical aspect of the usual civ series it bothers me a little. It's strange though I loved Alpha Centauri.

Always likely to be an issue with the game set so far in the future (notwithstanding your point about Alpha Centauri). I have to keep reminding myself that the 'quotes' that come with the discoveries, wonders, etc. are actually fictional! :S

I'm actually looking forward to finding my way around it, although I can foresee that it might take a while :D.

One thing I do like is the choices one has to make upon first building a new piece of tech.

Haven't you noticed? They're adapted from something else and the words are changed to make 'em futuristic. My favorite is John Henry picking up his shovel again against some mega future-machine!

Yeah, I do like the choices, but there's something quite bland about the whole experience, the different building, units and techs depending on your harmony are direct equivalents of their counterparts in terms of stats, some small ability difference. But it isn't varied enough to excite me.

This is typical Civ though, takes an expansion or two to get it right. I never really played Civ 5 until after the religions expansion.
