Alright veteran Cmdrs 07,
Ive been out on a 5,000 ly trek for a couple weeks when I decided I needed a lil break, then headed back (the fast route) to colonia. I did this in a 47ly fitted ASPX. The FSD is engineered at full lvl 4. The one issue that drove me insane with the ship was those two lights shining in my face. I wasn't to comfy with the temp variable when scooping either. But that's beside the main complaint.

So I decided I'd move up to the Krait Phantom. I took the engineered FSD out of the AspX and placed it in the Krait. Changed out and added proper modules and the jump range is a comfy 45ly. I decided that sometimes I'd like to to get to point B a bit faster and should begin engineering lvl 5. When I picked up the the blueprints I found that I had a most (I think all) of the materials required.

But the engineer would have none of it. ALL OF LVL 1-4 ARE COMPLETELY DONE! But there's a note that says I need more reputation to start lvl 5. According to the information on INARA, I have done everything required.
COULD IT BE HE WON'T TOUCH THE FSD IN THE NEW Ship (which I still have)?
I'm probably wrong, but is it possible he wants me to upgrade other stuff? I'm not really interested in his other svcs.
So, what gives?

Also reloaded the game just in case. Took the Krait out for a 500ly spin. Went back and he's still being a snooty fart. (beat him up for me)

Come to think of it, the FSD I'm complaining about was actually engineered in the bubble.
I gained reputation with Mel by engineering another ship through him which I still have.
Perhaps he only does upgrades on his own stuff?

This should not be an issue. Are you sure you maxed out on reputation with him? Can you provide a screenshot?

I'm on ps4, screenshots are pretty much impossible unless I take a Pic with the cell phone.
However, I thought of that before this post. Checked to make sure lvl 4 was complete.
I'll see what I can do with the cell phone here in a bit though.

Lvl 5 however I can't even touch.

The upper left corner says ”Grade 4 access”. You need grade 5 access to do grade 5 upgrades. You need to craft more modules to raise your engineer reputation.

If you have other modules to engineer at Mel, try starting with those to see if the rep goes up. If the progress bar towards grade 5 does not move when you do upgrades, then something is wrong.

One or two available ones, if you do those, they degrade the FSD.
It is a pickle.
I think something definitely is wrong. Since lvl 4 is complete, lvl 5 should be available. But as you can see in the lower right panel, reputation is short somehow, somewhere.
It's not critical I get it done. Just a bit of a pickle.

Just buy another FSD and start to upgrade it from level 1. Your rep with the engineer should then progress to level 5 and you can swap back and complete the one you want to get to level 5.

Don't change anything with the existing FSD or you will potentially undo everything you have previously done.

Exactly my thoughts. Put the current fsd back in the AspX, start from scratch on the krait.
That's probably the simplest fix.

Yes, or simply store your grade 4 FSD. Whatever works easiest for you.

The other main suspect at Mel Brandon would be the thrusters. Any ship can do well with some upgrades to the thrusters. Anyway, just doing a few low grade upgrades should at least tell you the reputation bar (upper left) moves.

The grade 5 only becomes available if grade 4 is done (not even to 100%, but sufficiently to start grade 5) and you have enough reputation with the engineer. In this case you only have grade 4 access to the engineer (see upper left corner) and therefore you need to up that reputation before you can do the grade 5 upgrades.

Mel does all sorts of useful blueprints so raising his access level should be easy just do some level 1 shield generators and boosters and maybe some weapons all with experimental effects and store them then if you need them you can transfer them to where your ship is and remote engineer them to the level you want.

I'll give it a try Cmdr.
I bought a new 5A fsd and leveled it up to complete lvl 4 this morning. Tried to start lvl 5 and he wouldn't do it. So I'll try a couple lvl ones.
If that works, that's still kind of a lame glitch from devs.
I'll post the results, good or bad.

Are you actually checking the engineer reputation progress bar along the way? It sounds to me as if you are just randomly doing engineering without actually checking the progress bar ...

Lvl4 completely done

I have plenty of resources to get lvl 5 started

So, in this image, right above the red you marked, you see the engineer reputation progress bar. You are not yet at level 5 access at the engineer. However ...

... you also see the progress bar on the engineer reputation in the upper left corner. This is the same image you took earlier and has less engineer reputation. I assume you have been doing some upgrades. You need to do more upgrades to reach engineer reputation level 5.

Yes, I upgraded the new 5a fsd to complete lvl 3 and start lvl 4 on the krait, Ran short of material. Then some Lazers on the python and the thrusters for giggles.
I'll keep at it then.
