Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I could not help myself, new ship = new paintjob ...

This screenshot is taken more or less from person-height ... Reminds you of how large the Cutter is ...

Ah! Yes, I'd imagine it would be!

I've changed my loadout slightly on my mining vessel. I now have six limpets on the go and four mining lasers. The fragments are flying in quickly but I'm not into the 200mCR/hour territory!

EDIT: 1.5 hours, 95mCR. Not too shabby!
Nice. I’m still experimenting with mining. Using my Cutter. Small beer compared with you chaps but made my best haul last night:

Nice!

Just had another 45 mins and managed 85m. Got some lucky high content finds though so the RNG loved me long time for a change.

It never seemed to like me very much :D I got very fed up cruising the rings for the right rocks, a while back!

I went and had a go in a Conflict Zone last night, for the first time. Just over 2 years in the game, and I'd never summoned up the courage to go on a MurderDeathKill rampage, but since this was a war that I am actually responsible for starting, I thought it was only fair that I pitch in and fight for the faction I had been quietly promoting into prominence :) One thing I am very glad of is that I did not go in there without being heavily engineered; it takes ages to kill even small ships because they are in turn tweaked a lot, and even my FDL with all it's shielding and reinforcement had to act like a shepherd and "get the flock out of here" on several occasions after being ganged up on.

That was in a "Low" zone. I tried out a "Medium" zone, and left almost immediately, due to the appearance of 4 spec-ops ships that melted me within seconds to perilously low hull integrity! I couldn't even get them in my view, let alone sights, and they were using some very pretty coloured beams that were knocking me for six. God knows how you're supposed to defeat them, I'm obviously not good enough yet!!

One entertaining thing to note... If you knock off a few ships in the CZ, then leave suddenly to trundle back to the local station, you don't lose any rep with the opposing faction - it doesn't matter how many of the opposing faction you've taken down. If you complete the CZ (win or lose), then rep does decline, as you might expect. I found it a nice way of keeping my allied status with one side, whilst kicking whatever out of them, and also helping the influence of the other (also allied) side that I picked!

There are a couple of tricks to dealing with the Spec Ops wing, the first is to be somewhere else in the CZ when they arrive so they don’t swarm you straight away, the second is to take them down in the order Delta, Gama, Beta and absolutely last Alpha to be honest apart from the Alpha the order isn’t important. Taking them down that way they tend not to support each other go for the Alpha first and the other 3 will join in and as you noticed they are all hard cases even by CZ standards.

Another special target that shows up in one of the CZs is the enemy captain the good news is that it is a single ship the bad news is a mass of armour and defence that takes forever to kill.

Sounds like you're getting into the groove :)

I run 10 collectors and 2 mining lasers. I can fire 2 lasers continuously with 4 pips to WEP, so I like that. Less fuss. And I strip the asteroids just slightly faster than my collectors can grab all the chunks, so I don't have to wait much. Works well enough for me.

Went for an hour today, and actually timed myself. Normally I'm too casual about it to to time anything, and I waste a lot of time goofing around with screenshots or looking stuff up online or getting something to eat :) I don't generally worry about being too efficient.

But today I had only an hour, so I was focused. I got 106 tons in that hour, which I thought was pretty decent. Demand was rather low today at most of the stations I could locate, so having only 106 worked out well. I wound up getting 1.4 million per ton, so about 154 million for that hour. Better than I usually do, so I was pleased.

I'm up to 6.8 billion toward my Carrier. Should be pretty close to enough for what I want to do. I've decided to fly out to "my" system, the one where I have all the first-discovered and first-mapped tags. It's out near Colonia, maybe 500LY from there. There's a ELW and a Water World there, too. Then I'm going to explore some of the nearby systems, and tag them as well. I'll be creating a mini-bubble with my name on everything, lol. That's my plan, anyway.

The rings were beautiful today, too, dark and transparent looking.

Fly safe, all :)

I must be getting soft in my old age... after a bit of faffing about to even get to Borann... I mined while watching other stuff and was happy with 52m and escaping a shifty NPC who wanted my not quite full hold ...

Too damn hot to be playing up in the loft where my PC is... so will be happy with that For the day and will try and get a couple of rounds in with the Python on Thursday!

Can I ask a question of you fellow Cutter miners? Do you use a fighter hangar? I do, so only have two 5A collectors and a 3A prospector. I find the fighter useful as she can literally deal with most pirates on her own while I continue to mine. But I slightly threw together my mining build so would hate to think I'm mucking up my mining and my numbers per hour are definitely not in your league (although I am up at Colonia). I have a 6A shield and cargo in the three largest slots.

Just allow the NPC pirates to scan you and they will be on their merry way and never bother you again. The miniscule amount of time this takes will be nothing compared to the rest of your mining trip.

They seem to attack me every time. When it's a Competent mamba or a FDL or something then I have to break off and fight, but my fighter can deal with even a small wing when they're the more common Mostly Harmless groups. But no I can't ignore them as they always attack. So I'm trying to balance efficiency on my mining target with efficiency against the pirates. I have two 5A collectors in my current setup so it's pretty quick. But then, I haven't seen an optimised build I action!

When you get into the rings you should only have limpets in your cargo hold. Do not start mining until they have scanned you. I have never been attacked by NPC pirates when having only limpets in the hold.

Sorry I haven't been clear. I have been scanned with only limpets and they move on. But I am often scanned while mining, while moving from one asteroid to another, after I already have some diamonds. Was attacked four times last night, by different pirates. All within one hotspot. The first chap wanted 644k credits' worth of cargo! That's when the fighter is doing its work while I carry on mining.

Very much this^^^^^^

After the initial visit when you arrive in the ring you shouldn’t see any more visitors unless you cause the instance to reset by going to the main menu or losing the connection, in either case I would go to sell what I had and restock my ship. Going to supercruise would also cause a reset but there is no reason to do that unless you are selling your cargo in that system.

The only other time you get repeated arrivals of pirates is if you are in range of some sort of RES, there is one near the triple in Borann but it is at one edge of the hot spot and you really shouldn’t be any where near it.
