About the 4K, well it doesn't surprise me. A 4K monitor is expensive as biiiiiip. Not only you will need to pay an expensive monitor, but also the GPU that comes with it. A bit like VR.
New hardware in development? For gaming? Any source for that?

Las ttime I cheked there where projects on the works for game compatible VR, and nothing high end, as it would be required to play Odissey without a pucking bag at all times. ( who am I kidding, you'll puke even with a high end VR set).

Yet 4k in TV sets and gaming consoles is a priority. It all goes on being on the cutting edge, and VR is maturing as a way of gaming.
There are at least half a dozen competitive VR sets to chose from, new HP Reverb is also on the way.

Half Life Alyx is a pretty high profile VR only game, and exactly for sims VR is mandatory these days, it is recognized (by the devs) as a top requested item for the new MS Flight Sim which is, again, as high profile as it gets.

You may get sick in VR, but for the most of us sitting inside the cockpit is irreplaceable by whatever pancake content is coming. Yes, we are spoiled and there is no way back.

No support for PS5 or Xbox-series-X?
I believe new PS4 games have to run on PS5 now - I would find it difficult to believe the game won't run on PS5 and perhaps a patch like the PS4 Pro patch to take advantage of the PS5 hardware. I'd love to see PSVR finally enabled for Elite.

As someone new to Elite I feel I have come in at a perfect time. Really looking forward to this.

I really hope you can walk around your ship, it would really add to the sense of scale. To me all the ships feel the same size while sat at the helm, other than perhaps the Conda and Vette. Would be nice to wander through it and experience the sheer size of some of them.

That's right, and nobody liked that, and those were at least spaceships. And yeah we're gonna have the exact same thing with spacelegs, and if you think that's good, you're in luck.
But graphics-wise I don't know why you're even trying to draw comparisons. Unless you can at any time get into a spaceship and fly all the way out into a planet-level view of The Division; I don't see any reason to expect that Elite with its mostly proc-gen height-mapped barren environments, is going to be remotely comparable to what you see in The Division, which is visually impressive almost entirely due to artistry and carefully pre-built limited-sized environments which are viewed from a comparably small number of angles in an extremely predictable way. You might as well use The Last of Us as your point of reference at that point. It seems really silly.
Fair enough, I wasnt very clear. My point was I dont see what the PS4 an Xbone have to do with the quality of the FPS shooting mechanics and/or Graphics when there are games that work and look just fine on consoles. If they cant get it too look good or work well without brute forcing super high specs then that's on them at this point.

And really, the Division is fine right now in terms of TTK, Will Elite follow it down that path of balancing, who knows. Probably wont get it right on the first try like most things but they'll probably figure it out.

"If space legs comes, I'm out!"

"If VR is removed going forward, I'm out!"

Fdev looking at the actual potential profit loss if these people leave: "That's adorable. So, anyway, where we going for lunch today?".

@FD

Fool me once - shame on you.
Fool me twice - shame on me.
I've been fooled twice a few times in my 68 years. I really hope it isn't gonna happen again.
“There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.”

lol, I hope I'm not fooled either bud.

OMG.. I am so happy, this looks amazing. Everything looks so dam good. Gorgeous graphics...... nice.

thanks fdev, I am really happy you have let people know some of what you are working on

FPS doesn't necessarily mean Elite turns into CoD. There are a lot of things that one could do on foot that could be fun but don't involve shooting, for example one could go on EVA to repair damage to your hull, or collect plant samples from a planet. I think a statement from FDev here would be useful.
While this is very true, I am not confident that in general the desires of the playerbase are amenable to that. Shoot-em-up-9000 seems to be an insanely popular game style that has a longstanding tradition of encroaching into other games, and often times that is because the developers are trying to cater to the very large number of players who love that kind of gameplay.

Although all this looks impressive, I will hold my excitement until we get closer to release, as more details & content is revealed.

I've seen it brought up a few times, including once by Yamicks complaining about it.

In fact, this isn't something they just sneaked into a trailer. There was an announcement about it here on the forum a month ago: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/community-update-01-05.543730/
Thank You CMDR Yates, I genuinely did not catch that post. I don't mind a wee wait if it's worth it, it is still a very very timely leak after the carrier debacle though.

Try and get a Type 9 through a slot manually :)

I personally just don't care about walking around my ship. The first few times may be cool, but the 100th time walking out of the cockpit and down the hall, then down the ladder to the surface is going to be boring. And just how different do you suppose the cargo hold of an Anaconda is than the cargo hold of a Python? So I can see my cmdr's bedroom, is lying down and taking a nap exciting gameplay? No doubt we'd be able to buy interior decorations for ARX, but buying sets of sheets and throw pillows is not what I'm looking for in a space game. Interiors of ships will most likely be just a lot of re-use of the same graphics over and over. I would imagine that different ship constructors will have different design language to match the cockpit differences, but still, will the interior of a Dolphin be all that different than the interior of a Beluga? I'd be glad to be wrong, but I just don't see the lasting value of ship interiors unless boarding other ships is part of the FPS expansion.
