The planet in the trailer is atmo indeed. We dont know anything more, or even if this was just 'artistic license' from the art guys or not.

It wasn't artistic license as far as I know. The trailer footage was in game.

Also this part from the mail we got points most definitely to atmospheric planets:
See the galaxy like never before. Touch down on breathtaking planets powered by stunning new tech, soak in suns rising over unforgettable vistas, discover outposts and settlements, and explore with unrestricted freedom.

Nothing is mentioned about atmospheric landings in the announcement so I’m not holding getting excited about it yet. Surely I’m not the only one who’s noticed that the trailer states ‘in-engine’ footage not ‘in-game’.
This means that what we’re seeing is simply an artistic trailer - don’t forget we also got these showing ships pulling 360 degree turns while having epic battles weaving in/out of space stations when in reality the battles are very different.
While I’m hoping for something great, I’m not convinced that this is anything more than a theatrical trailer and what we’ll get in reality is something much less exciting.

pvp/ player interaction (pp etc) hasnt recieved a lot of attention from the dev team. its ok for others to get nice things as well as explorers

What more doe sit need? PvP has pretty much everything you might want I'd have thought. A mass of weapons, heaps of ships and ways to mod them to make them super shooty, missions focussed on shooting things, CZ, Aliens to shoot at , other players to shoot at.
What's missing?

51 pages is too long to read, but those skys look awfully blue and hazy to me... space legs AND atmospheric landings?

From the teaser trailer it looks like we'll have: space legs, fps weapons, barren atmospheric landing (don't get your hopes up about ELWs, maybe next expansion. If we are very lucky we might get within next season gas giants and water worlds, but lets not get ahead of ourselves and keep our feet on the ground. For real this time!)

only because they have so far focused on pve gameplay. time to spread the love is all. sharing is caring dude
No, you really are mistaken. Just think about it.
What constitutes PvE gameplay?!
PvP in Elite (and in most if not all MMO like games) depends completely on a good foundation of PvE mechanics.

It doesn’t say ‘in game’, it says ‘in-engine’ pre alpha, meaning they’ve made a trailer using the Cobra engine.

a balance pass on the op weapons/ shield boosters, to make more builds viable and bring ttk down.
fixing instancing so players can interact reliably.
allow powerplay to be what it was intended as, a way for player to competively interact with meaning and outcomes which effect the universe
anything to show a bit of love. justr saying so far devtime is skewed towards pve. time to share it out more evenly perhaps

All you are talking about there though are tweaks to what's existing. Power play isn't PvP really. It's PvE with some PvP elements
PvP is by its very nature, quite shallow in its gameplay.
PvE, on the other hand, needs a large amount of work and differing things. There is a lot more to add as well IMO, whereas PvP is pretty much everything it needs to be.

I didn't mean SC. What I was trying to say was that traditionally games are largely developed behind closed doors for all or large portions of their time. See GTA, Cyberpunk, RDR2 etc. At the end of the development you get, for better or worse, the finished version minus the iteration, the improved quests, major bugs etc.

Elite hasn't been like that. We've played it, or been able to play it, solidly for over 6 years so by the time we get what looks like a pretty big and what looks like technically more advanced update, we've seen all the warts. Imagine if GTA was developed in the same way and the first release was just an empty city you could drive around in. 6 years later you got the finished version.

I wonder if people would have preferred to wait for 6 years to get Odyssey or to have played the game's numerous releases as they happened?

Personally I'm glad they did it like this, it's crazy on a game of such a wild scope but it's been fun to play and follow.

We we have waited 6 years to get odysee.. I don't think elite so far is 'beta odysee'.

I get what you're saying, but i think elite is a little different. If you took the simulator pillar / classification out of it, the what's left is trivial nothing. Elite routinely falls back on that at need. Because of this, as soon as the simulator aspect of elite was built (launch?) id be more inclined to call elite fully released at that point.

Id counter with the roadmap is more like mmo expansions rather than beta turning into 1.0. There's nothing there without the 1.0 stuff... in the future no greater game will suddenly will appear out of a final patch to be complete.

im getting the impression you two dont evr pvp, and maybe find it hard to see things from others perspective

The main point is that it was marketed as a VR and 4K game as key features back then, but today, the two tiny VR support lines in the Steam description are about all hinting at VR at all. Since the ED site relaunch, there is zero mentioning of the fact the current game supports VR at all anymore, and despite the constant worries in the VR community, FD has not answered the question in either way. One statement would be enough to end the uncertainty, but there is none, since years now. Make of that what you will. I doubt that they will dare to drop it, but ask the Mac users.

And, woe me! June 2nd was Bazmeson Day and I completely missed it this year!

O7,
🙃
Dont tell that to the console crowd. Whats with all the 'we're entitles to answers' mindset around here?

I asked you for your perspective and you posted 3 things. 2 of which are tweaks and the other which is really PvE that sometimes has a PvP element but has evolved into a Grand Opera non-combat PvP which I think is an epic outcome.

On top of that:
1. PvP/muiltiplayers can wing up with each other, but soloists still can't wing up with npc.
2. And the carriers, despite what FDev says, are obviously 99% multiplayer content.
3. Multiplayers got multicrew, but we still do not have a good npc crew system.

But... on the other hand the implementation of multiplayer multicrew was incredibly lazy and completely failed because of that.
FDev did not even think of implementing a good multicrew mining mechanic when they introduced the mining update.
I even proposed a good core mining multicrew mechanic, even though I do not care about multiplayer myself at all.
