That seems to be it.Which would go some way to suggesting I'm correct; you can launch Horizons or Odyssey. It's not a mixed medium.

Thing is NMS managed it and it works really really well
NO VR NO MONEYGreetings Commanders,
Thank you for your overwhelmingly positive response to the announcement of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. We’ve been really excited to share this and it’s amazing to see that you all feel the same way!
This is just the beginning and we will be sharing more details and information in the coming months that you can look forward to.
We’re seeing all your streams, videos, posts and questions and, today, we wanted to answer a few for you straight away:
Is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey coming to VR?
Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. We’re big fans of VR and we are truly proud of the amazing experience that we currently offer in Elite Dangerous. However, the new gameplay, mechanics and features that will be introduced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey means that we had to re-examine if we could deliver that same experience without compromise, which, for launch, means Odyssey will not be VR-compatible.
Will there be Base Building in Elite Dangerous: Odyssey?
Base building is not currently on the roadmap for Elite Dangerous, however we have plenty of new features planned instead such as on-foot exploration, new planetary tech, social hubs, combat as well as more to be shared later on! We’re looking to put our best foot forward with Odyssey and if you’d like an overview of what to expect, you can check out the website or Steam page.
Will Elite Dangerous: Odyssey be included in my Lifetime Expansion Pass?
While Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is a paid expansion, we're happy to confirm that yes, this expansion will absolutely be included in the Lifetime Expansion Pass for free.
Stay Safe, Commanders o7
How will you handle the transition between Odyssey content and base / Horizons content? Please tell me you're not removing VR completely from the game.Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. Will we get to walk around and customize our ships? I can make my ship my "base" if so.Base building is not currently on the roadmap for Elite Dangerous, however we have plenty of new features planned instead such as on-foot exploration, new planetary tech, social hubs, combat as well as more to be shared later on! I dunno. I'm going to find this a real pita if I have to quit the game and remove my headset, then fire up the game again in pancake mode to walk somewhere.
How could such a think work, though? How do you get to the planets?Which would go some way to suggesting I'm correct; you can launch Horizons or Odyssey. It's not a mixed medium.
So just play in pancake mode all the time?I dunno. I'm going to find this a real pita if I have to quit the game and remove my headset, then fire up the game again in pancake mode to walk somewhere.
I'm very disappointed to see the lack of vr support but also completely understand why radically new content might lose compatibility.Greetings Commanders,

What about Ship Interiors? Will we be able to walk around in our Ships? We already have SRV´s! If we can´t access the full ship interior the DLC would be pointless...Greetings Commanders,

Just to add to this, VR will still be compatible with the base game and Horizons!
Base Building ........ but .... but .... 'the leak' said you would have it ! (So did the text hastily withdrawn from the web site page) . Not that I'm bothered, I will just have to sell ice creams at the Station.
How could such a think work, though? How do you get to the planets?
They can shove their space legsI simply won't be walking anywhere...
I don't do PvP but of anything flat screen will have an advantage there with KB/M. I could live with that.Never tried NMS, how does that work with PvP FPS combat? Shirley the VR guys have a massive advantage, I mean I can turn my head around exorcist style in some of my VR FPS games.
We do also have advantages when flying ships, but the FPS advantage would be huge. Sounds to me like they weighed up all the pro's and cons (Nausea in FPS is also a major issue)
Put this is in the OP so people can see it and wont keep asking the same questions.Greetings Commanders,

Nope, read his next post. How will you handle the transition between Odyssey content and base / Horizons content? Please tell me you're not removing VR completely from the game.
It's not being dropped, it's not being added to the new expansion at launch.Just registering my disappointment that VR is being dropped.
