I'm not someone who gets a kick out of logging onto forums to complain, but as a fan, I feel like I've got to say something here.
After playing this game for 431 hours, for me personally (as well as my three buddies that are also regular players), VR support isn't a feature. It's a core element of the game.
Removing it for Odyssey (or temporarily removing it without any guarantee that it will ever be added) is akin to removing the thumbsticks from my xbox controller and asking me to play Halo.
Elite will always be first and foremost an EXPERIENTIAL game. It's all about the feeling of exploring space, being put realistically inside a ship for combat, etc. Nothing fulfills that more than putting my head inside a spaceship.
To say that I won't play elite anymore without VR isn't a threat, or whining, it's just a reality (and from the comments above, I'm sure that it's also the reality of thousands of other VR first players).
Even worse, I'm genuinely not clear on what the value proposition of Odyssey even is. Space legs has always been a feature that sounds great on paper but starts to fall apart as you think about how it could be implemented. The features they're describing (viewing sunsets, exploring planet surfaces etc) are by and large things that are ALREADY IN THE GAME.
What Elite really needs is new systems to motivate players. New mission types. New ships. A deeper world to explore. Look at Star Citizen. They've been trying to implement this FROM THE GROUND UP in their game, and look how far (or not far) they've gone.
If you guys implement his as a shallow combat add-on that destroys VR compatibility for thousands of fans, you're not just gonna lose a chunk of your paying customer base. You're also going to lose some of your biggest and most vocal fans.
PLEASE commit to supporting VR for all future game features. It's in your interest, along with the interest of the community at large.
