ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Announcement

Comparing no VR to not being released on console is a false equivalency. And if they said they were releasing on PC first and then consoles months later, I would understand that. I own the game on PC and console, so I really don't care. I prefer to play it on console with my friends, but I wouldn't put up a big stink about it. It's called being reasonable and understanding priorities.
When a Company sells a game on a VR ONLY store, that makes VR a pretty high priority for those who own it on that store. That you can't see that blows.my mind

A welcome announcement. Thank you. I notice combat will be FP. Any chance for a 3P option? I can't play FP due to a medical condition. Not sure why but there you go. I get the whole immersion thing but I still get immersed while in 3P mode. (Witcher, RDR2, Assassin's Creed etc etc). It could be a deal breaker for me if moving around is in FP ala Star Citizen (which I can't play for the same reason). The trailer indicates that general movement will be third person. Can you confirm this is the case and whether FP combat will be in set areas or open world? Thanks again and look forward to further information.

Fleet Carriers... 5 Billion to buy... millions to run... and taken away if you don't play... for the select few... now if you could just sort that out for me FDev and ignore all these other VR players, they're just a minority anyway.🤪😜🤪

Touche, I like your argument here, but.... There are more important issues with Elite than Fleet Carriers, Space Legs or VR. But considering Fleet Carriers are about to be implemented soon, and the issues I think exist have everything to do with the majority of people who CAN'T afford to spend 5 billion (my biggest gripe is the lack of pooled squadron funds to buy one), I think that's a little bit more important than implementing VR for something that isn't out for 6+ months. That's my take on it at least.

I've never even heard of this VR ONLY store buddy. Maybe they take it off the store so you don't get upset??

You can play SC in third person.

Regardless of whether you have heard of it or not it exists.. and so if oculus pull it from sale how does that help the people who bought it already. They still end up with a copy of a game they cant get an expansion for.... That said pulling it from sale or at least putting a warning on it is exactly what I have suggested they need to do... Not that they will listen I doubt

You seem to have trouble understanding that VR is niche and consoles are not.
Niche or not, console players are still a minority in Elite's playerbase. Would it be entitlement if they were excluded from the update, and expressed disappointment over that?

Minecraft has sold 200 million copies.
And?

That just makes your commercial based arguments even more fallacious, the game is already demonstrably niche, why remove one of the core features that could add 50% to your playerbase, oh that's right because that's ECity's idea of business acumen.

You are clueless.

There are reportedly around 120 devs at FDev working on Odyssey.
Hello Games implemented VR in about one year with just TWO DEVELOPERS.
SCS Software maintains VR support for their games with ONE DEVELOPER (who does it in his spare time).
And David Braben has commented how it takes less time to put VR into the game than it takes to write the business case to discuss doing it.

Oculus store, Elite is sold on there.

I respect your right to your opinion but question if entitled is the right word?
I paid for a VR game. I play in VR exclusively. I bought a LEP under the assumption that I would still be able to play in VR in all future updates. Am I entitled? Actually I think you may be right!
I’m sorry you are embarrassed about my entitlement but Frontier need to know.
You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t love the game And I respect that. I don’t know how you play, but let’s assume you found out you couldn’t play the way you wanted to any more... I would think entitlement would be served for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I get that you're frustrated. I apologize if I have minimized that. But that's due to my frustration with people overreacting and coming off unreasonable. I say embarrassing because if I was a frontier developer, I'd be absolutely annoyed with the community I work so hard for to constantly be complaining about lower priority things as if they are the highest priority ever. I used the word entitled for a precise reason; because that's how you VR cult people are coming off as (no offense intended). You are stomping your feet and demanding that they prioritize something for a small minority. Does that make any sense? And I cannot stress enough that I 100% want VR implemented. It just needs to be prioritized properly. When they implement VR, I hope it comes with a bunch of enhancements, upgrades over the current version. That it's better than ever and you're happier than a dog with two tails.

But VR is currently, and probably will always be, a non-standard feature. It is a luxury. It is an add-on. It's not core to the game, and it was clearly prioritized as such. This shouldn't come as a surprise. Let them take the time to implement it right, after they release and fix bugs on the core update.

Yes, but there's content that forces FP which makes it unplayable for me. :(

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, you are correct there. Well, I'm sorry about that. I love switching between FP and TP in games, depending on what I'm trying to do. Usually I'm bummed out when a game is FP only, but I can definitely understand that someone who needs to play in TP must really be frustrated. Unfortunately, I have a feeling Elite will remain FP only though.
