I'm hoping we will see guardian ruins hidden in jungles on elws.
All the more reason to not show it until near launch, when it is fresh in everyone's mind, maybe?I don't expect the ability to go to elw or ww at launch. That'll prolly be in the later updates.
My guess is if that was ready they would have showed it in the teaser. That's the money shot
So Kickstarter Alpha/Premium Beta backers get it too? Will Elite Dangerous: Odyssey be included in my Lifetime Expansion Pass?
While Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is a paid expansion, we're happy to confirm that yes, this expansion will absolutely be included in the Lifetime Expansion Pass for free.
Not an unreasonable assumption, but this is not established fact.
Quite the opposite. Dev kits back then were around 600GBP if I am not mistaken, and whole VR remained prohibitorily expensive until Oculus Summer of Rift sale happened. And it started a slow decline of prices. As for hardware, if you can play recent game releases, you can play VR. Here are the recommended specs for Oculus Rift S:And quite likely cheaper to do back then. Today's hardware is more demanding
Oh, "Malcom Reynolds." He is a fictional character from the show FireFly.Who is Mal? Is he a developer?
I hope so… I'm a Kickstarter Premium Beta Backer. So Kickstarter Alpha/Premium Beta backers get it too?
I admire your optimism. All the more reason to not show it until near launch, when it is fresh in everyone's mind, maybe?
Can I preorder Odyssey, as I did with Elite Dangerous and Horizons?
The sad part for me is that VR players truly feel like the game is over for them without VR. I can't wrap my head around that, because I've always felt the game looked fantastic in 2D. Though maybe it's a bit like having a high quality audio solution, you just never want to go back to consumer audio once you experience a pro set.
The only reason many are playing Elite is because its VR otherwise we'd be playing star citizen or any other countless FPS flat games.
The above post is not VR related so I'm not going to rant about VR again in this message, however CMDR Valleys does ask some very interesting questions, and if those are answered the answers he gets from Frontier will be very insightful into how the new game will feel. +1 for a great post. Thanks for the update FD really positive that there will be major expansion for the game and i look forward to more details going forward. I do however have a few questions regarding internal spaces and the missions system which also looks to have had a major overhaul and hope you can answer them or let me know if these can be answered at some future point.
1. Internal spaces (small) : will you be using procedural tech in their internal layout with changes to atmosphere and placement. Will these tie into the new mission system, and will NPCs dynamically populate and defend them from your actions?
2. Large internal spaces : space stations, bases. will procedural tech be used to create a labyrinth of internal spaces, again populated by various NPCs from local gangs to large 'faction' groups who will recognise and act accordingly. (I understand you created a spy game that was discontinued that included this type of dynamic content).
3. Player agency : have you developed new methods of creating faction affiliations and adding greater agency for gamers, will factions offer hidden and unique missions for those with long term standing allowing a player to follow the entire trail of missions a faction is operating to further their goals. will we be able to find out these goals? will there be missions that use this knowledge to make things easier.
4. The discovery/The scout/The patrol : will there be greater incentives for cmdrs to remain in SRV's or on foot for significant periods. Will there be instances where cmdrs will remain in normal cruise to give a true war pilot experience and take advantage of the amazing draw distances.
5. Missions content and dynamism: will missions get greater verity, in terms of procedural and dynamic content. for example you are paid to eliminate someone who turns out to be peaceful and will need protecting or overwhelming odds that force you to change sides.
Again the potential of Elite and the game you are developing leaves each announcement open to high expectations making it hard to frame my questions so forgive me if their too wide eyed.
I wish you all the best of luck with the development and launch, which can only be seen as positive for the game and its continued development.
So when Frontier says no VR support for Odyssey, I don't see how that is understood as something being removed or taken away.
The thing is, it was probably even more niche when Frontier initially supporting it.
No, I completely understand that. I think the sentiment I'm specifically referring to is the idea that VR has been "removed" or "dropped", as if we've already been able to play Odyssey in VR, but Frontier have somehow taken something away. When in reality it's not so much that we're losing something we currently have, but that we're not getting something new.Not sure what's hard to understand here. We (the VR fanbois) can't play Odyssey in VR, and we simply refuse to play a subpar 2D monitor version. We are simply being excluded from all the new content.
