I am surprised. I find 25% is very important.Hmm so far Reddit poll states ~25% VR only Vs 75% 2d only. Over a thousand votes last I checked. One fourth isn't half bad![]()
I agree there is some confusion here. The pertinent question is imo the planet tech. FD have not spelled it out but it was imo implied that odyssey as a whole won't support VR.So when new players buy the game, they won't be able to buy horizons, so will never be able to land on non-atmospheric planets.
Hi. Same here.Sorry Frontier, but without VR, at least when I'm sitting in my cockpit, I will not play this game. Too much of a step back. I was never keen on space legs anyway. I am very disappointed about this announcement.
Error sorry, no. Unbiased samples are representative. Self selecting samples are not.Statistics tell us that samples are representative.
Exactly my thoughts, sorry FDev your short sightedness has made a good game that could of been unbelievable.Sorry Frontier, but without VR, at least when I'm sitting in my cockpit, I will not play this game. Too much of a step back. I was never keen on space legs anyway. I am very disappointed about this announcement.
Yup, I can't see it happening any other way.I agree there is some confusion here. The pertinent question is imo the planet tech. FD have not spelled it out but it was imo implied that odyssey as a whole won't support VR.
Some of that planetary tech may well filter down to non-atmospheric planets for VR users to see, I don't think it's the planetary tech that's the issue, but yeah, I agree that these atmospheric planets should be available for people to land on. Maybe they should have a horizons+ version that you get when you buy Odyssey that allows you to fly down and land, use your SRV but doesn't allow the FPP gameplay. That's shouldn't be too difficult to do I would have thought. But I don't know how it's been implemented.Which will mean vr users will literally be stuck on horizons...... So none of the planet tech and none of the other tweaks and improvements that for instance base game players got when horizons landed..
If this happens they what still active non VR player is going to continue to play on the old code when there is nothing hardware wide to stop them playing on the new engine? So the old build will potentially become a barely used one very quickly, VR players will very soon be like the Mac players or the 32 bit players.
I don't think that will be necessary, see above. The other option is that the new planet tech doesn't touch planets without atmosphere at all and those ice planets which were used as a hook to keep us from moaning in 2017 to get us to play beyond (look at this amazing content but it won't be ready for launch... That sounds familiar) now becomes paid content for odyssey.
Again, see above.Imagine the outcry if fleet carriers became a paid DLC? And yet to me making the improved ice worlds paid DLC would be far worse than fleet carriers.
They specifically mentioned nausea which makes me thing it's the FPP part which is the biggest issue.TLDR we can't know for sure but the tone of FDs response makes it sound to me like NONE of the new engine stuff will work in VR including those ice planets I have been holding out for for 3 years.
Either non VR players will get to move over to odyssey with the horizons feature set making vr horizons a ghost town
OR
FD have pay gated all planet surface improvement
OR
Their announcement of odyssey not supporting VR was needlessly poorly worded. Imo
I didn't vote there. I only read reddit.LMAO you actually believe EVERY SINGLE ELITE DANGEROUS PLAYER actually participated in that? LOLOLOLOL
You know damn well that VR users flocked to that poll because of how riled up they are, and most standard users probably didn't even know the poll existed.
I wouldn't trust some biased reddit poll worth a damn.
They specifically mentioned nausea which makes me thing it's the FPP part which is the biggest issue.
I fail to see how the planetary tech would be impossible or difficult for VR unless they are using a lot of sprites.
Get rid of the word probably, because they do know.Paragraph 7.2 of the ED EULA allows FDev to collect anonymous usage data, including device IDs etc. They probably know exactly how many ED players use HMDs, and for how long per session.

Personally I think it's more about time. I doubt the planetary tech would be an issue. It would be all about the UI when in FPP as that would likely have to be very different for a normal 2D environment. We all know it can be done, but it's likely a timing issue more then anything. So I'm hopeful that they will see how many people are upset about it and commit to a VR update shortly after release.I find that really hard to swallow.
According to your statement, if that's true, someone or some people at FD couldn't stomach something in VR, so because they can't, FD have decided no one can.
And thus, no VR??
Erm...
I think FD made the decision of not initially support VR (kind of statement which the company used often in the past to keep bad news ambiguous, without no further explanations) is not based on market statistics but more on developers' technical inability to deliver up to the community's expectations despite the copious time at disposal.
Well, I expressed my great disappointment in the forums regarding the lack of VR for Odyssey or an acceptable solution for VR players. I can't do anything else, it's Frontier's choice. I don't care about the technicals problems of the developers, it's not my problem. I'm just a "customer" who buys a product. If it suits me I buy otherwise I will look elsewhere.
I don't see any point in continuing with Horizon (Just for info, I'm triple 140, 15 billion credits, Corvette, Cutter, etc ... all almost fully equipped (guardians and engineers) Not much else to do. Sad day for me.
Yes, why not ?Your duty with your 15B credits, buy that Fleet Carrier and all modules, name it "EDO VR Charity" fully stock it, make it "open" and park it somewhere needed, funding it's use for several years with your remaining credits. By the time you return EDO will have it's VR release (2023, maybe) and you can have fun building up your wealth again.
