Don't need VR Legs, but since Odyssey won't even allow VR Flight, guess this is end of the road for many :/

Where is that information from that you won't be able to use VR for flight and driving as usual with Odyssey loaded?!?
I didn't see any statement like that. Maybe wait until that's clarified until stating speculations as facts?

Is this just another nonsense thread or is there some hard information? As far as I am aware, Horizons 'Which is stunning in VR' Will remain a VR title.

Planetary tech and other visual enhancements from Odysessy will also be included (For free) for Horizons owners. The only thing being restricted is any of the the new (Yet tbc) FPS gameplay.

If you want to take part in any new FPS gameplay, this must be done on a flat screen. There is an outside chance that VR will be available in the future.

I have no issues flying around in VR, then switching to the big screen for FPS stuff. What info from the devs has changed?

Bolded part hasn't been confirmed by FD iirc (sounds logical and in line with previous updates though).
As long as there is something to speculate, people will speculate? 🤷‍♂️

also now I want Spekulatius

They said base and horizons will keep VR, but we dont yet know if horizons will have visual enhancements from Odyssey. Probably. But suspect the planets not available in Horizons will remain not available, and as Odyssey currently (at launch) wont work in VR (ie presumably wont launch in VR at all) then the new planets wont be accesible for VR to fly down to.

This is all based on the only info we have - Odyssey will not be VR compatible at launch.

He who not only does not voice concern over noticing that the captain appears to barge full steam ahead into an iceberg, while there is still time to correct course, but goes so far as to actively go out of his way trying to suppress others who do, forfeits his right to complain, when the consequences of his complacency comes to bear, and it has become too late to do anything.

Maybe FDev should consider how their style of communicating, by veiling bad news under judiciously vague statements, has taught their customers to always expect the worst, and think about whether that is really where they want to be.

"Horizons will still work" is not good enough.

Cool. I don't watch FD streams because I get a stroke seeing most of them fly, would be nice of them to confirm it on the forums though.

Am sure Horizons VR owners will miss out on a lot of stuff, like missions for orbitals to new planatery base locations, probably tonnes of yet to be announced features. But the core visuals will applied to everyone.

In Odyssey. But thats not the problem - the problem is none of the new atmo planets will be accessible in Horizons, presumably. So at launch, none of the new planets will be VR to fly down to.

That has not been confirmed, they had mentioned that they don't know how to include the gameplay for VR users. The tech will be applied to all planets, from the Bubble across the galaxy.

They also confirmed that these are very basic thin atmospheres, don't expect anything more.

I'm quite sure the intention was/is to disable VR if you launch the Odyssey launcher option. So horizons would be the only set of planets (ie non atmo) VR could land on.

But I suspect they are now looking at if they could do something to allow VR players to buy Odyssey and use VR on the new planets. But don't expect the atmos planets to somehow appear in Horizons, it makes no business sense to give 1/2 of the new headline features to those who haven't purchased Odyssey. If you see what I mean.

Hopefully they will either a) confirm they will add VR later, or b) allow players to switch in game to 2d.

Too early to make any opinion, we'll see how it goes... For now VR won't be there to push me into buying Odyssey is all I know. Unless that new content reveals itself so much worth it that not buying it is not an option, I'm just not impressed for now.

I sincerely hope some thin atmospheres is not the headline Odyssey Feature. Expect to hear a lot more about the actual game-play.

There is actually no reason why they couldn't have the new thin atmosphere planets available to horizons owners, content can still be locked out (no access to missions, docking rights at new ports).

Base and Horizons planets are separated, but that player base is truly divided, those cmdrs don't travel down to planets, it would just be a resource hog having horizons planets visible from space.

Anyway, they said new tech is coming for all planets, and VR is remaining. I can live with that.

Or VR will be in Odessy by then
If they are sure they are adding VR they could say that, they aren't so as far as we know VR is coming anywhere between now and never. Now since they have been so vague we aren't just to make sure they understand there's a demand for VR. We could wait till Odyssey is released and buy it assuming VR will be added at some later date only to find out it won't be because "not at launch" is not synonymous with "at a later date" .

Not at launch basically means 'It depends how much money we make'

Am hopeful that this will be successful for them, it is the gameplay part I worry about. Unfortunately the track record hasn't been great. Still, even mindless fps combat in a sci-fi setting is a lot of fun, so they will attract new customers.
