Press F For Mining

Or S if you prefer.

I really really enjoyed mining 100x more than before the patch NOT BECAUSE OF THE MONEY but because of the time spending mining itself. Abrasion, core, and sub surface were pretty much useless in all regards before this patch. It wasn't worth the effort because the time spent didn't yield anything worthwhile compared to surface mining.

So before it was still fun but we'd be stuck hopping from rock to rock mind numbingly holding the trigger while hopefully having some bantz with the guys in Borann. Thank god for chat or mining would be EOL.

So adding a LOT of flecks coming out of SSD's inadvertently made the game more run. It introduced a new mechanic of actually searching for good stuff, and spending A LOT OF TIME ON ONE ROCK. I could spend time searching, find a nice rock, spend time preparing to extract all of its goodness out of it using all means necessary. I really enjoyed making mining more interactive and profitable.

The solution was not to reduce the yield and sparsity of the profit. The solution was to reduce the rewards and prices slightly or the yield.

Keep the number of SSD's high, reduce the % yield per fleck or the overall price per LTD.

Make the markets actually respond to supply and demand. With all the LTD's out there.. the price should be dropping significantly.

I should be able to come home from work, spend 2 hours mining and fill my hold travel and sell. I'm not like some of the insane people calculating profits per hour. I'm a casual player who just wants to have fun like most of the RECORD BREAKING people who showed up to play, made videos reviews about how awesome this patch was.

So I saw this nerf as the ultimate insult. They just made the game the most popular thing since sliced bread and they had to nerf it somehow and disappointing a lot of people. So they better come up with a really good compromise!

They didn't.

If I can fill my hold in 2 hours of play I'll be happy. I use a T9 and it takes time. Using all methods and spending time having FUN doing it.

Given what some commanders were reporting from subsurface mining, a 25% reduction doesn't seem huge - and subsurface is still massively better than it was before the FC update.

I just pulled 47 tons of LTDs from one rock (with 2 subsurface deposits), in a random single LTD hotspot (took about 10 minutes to locate the rock).

Hardly nerfed...I think the people who are complaining about this nerf haven't actually gone out and tried mining. It's still ridiculous how much you get out of these deposits.

I tried a single hotspot earlier in the week. Only found 1 LTD subsurface deposit... And 4 tritium (there wasn't even a tritium hotspot nearby :D ). I'm currently looking for another suitable place to test (or more accurately, seeing if I can find a double hotspot somewhere that is quiet).

Bingo. When a market demanding X (be it LTDs or Biowaste, it doesn't matter), suddenly gets inundated with X, the price should drop like a rock. It's called "market economics", "supply and demand", concepts that any first year economics student understands. It's not like that in today's ED, but I could have sworn there was a time in the past when things worked like that, or maybe I'm just getting the four previous iterations of the game mixed up, but I DO remember at least one of them having mechanics where you could tank the price of a commodity by dumping metric fnark-tons of it there, forcing you to find other good routes.

Fun times, and a lot more realistic too.

Don't exist anymore, apparently. It doesn't matter how much of a commodity to drop on a system, they keep wanting more, more, MORE of the stuff, leading to the silliness we have now.

LTD mining is dead, long live LTD mining. But seriously, they could change subsurface yields in a week but they haven't balanced other professions?
And whose personal definition of what constitutes ‘balanced’ should they balance the other professions in accordance with?

It is not a 25% reduction though. That is the reduction to the maximal yield from a missile. Sub-surface mining is also being affected by the changes to LTD hotspot mechanics.

mining IS pretty fun. especially compared to how it was for the first 4 or so years of this game. looking up sale prices on 3rd party web sites (especially for those of us in VR), navigating buy/sell menus and mashing the "+" button....not even slightly fun.

This. I just mined 70 tons in 36 minutes (looked up the numbers after posting in the other thread), over 30 of that came from one LTD subsurface asteroid.

It's been nerfed, just not enough
