Anybody at Frontier?

It's been a week now since that "patch" landed, 7 days of complete radio silence.

So in lieu of hearing otherwise, the current situation is to remain for the foreseeable future, yes? Patch works as intended, yes?

Will the FC PJs be taken off the store given they're not fit for purpose?

I hope not.. there's some really bad stuff still in there, like the screen tinting kicking once you undock or go to supercruise, and many of the add number buttons not scaling.

It would be a new low for frontier if they just left it like this.

Here to make yourself feel better read what other gamers get, do a search and replace with elite.

Such a difference in attitude from 2 companies that are equally evil and have pretty much the same community problems.

Yawn.

Edit: And will that do anything to stop you complaining every 10 seconds ... I'm guessing no. Which is one reason why there's no point in them posting here 🤷‍♀️

It would have, and for the record, I'm not on Tw@er and am not planning to. Do I have to scout through the cesspit that that social media platform is to find out about the game, or wouldn't you think their own forums would be a more suitable place to share this information?

Why can't they post that here on the forums? Did they forget their passwords?

And when I speak about posting on the forum - I'm not talking about responding to DD threads - I keep a keen eye out for news on the forum section that is called News & Bulletins, seems pretty fitting a place for this kind of stuff, but I'm probably just crazy for thinking that.

I guess you just proved my point - thanks :D

Are you kidding? He bought 4 paint jobs. And a ship kit. I only say that as it humbled my support with just the ship kit. Would you rather the cosmetics pillar be broken for frontier? Im sure they disagree with you.

I dropped about 40 Euros over the past few weeks (prior to the "patch") on cosmetics (half that on FCs) after a longer spending break because I was very happy with the FC release, and enthusiastic about playing Elite in a way that hasn't been the case since 3.3 released.

And up until last week Tuesday, I had zero regrets about doing so - because everything worked (I'm referring to the items I purchased, not the rest of the game necessarily), then it didn't, people complained here and it's tumble weed for a week. If something like happened in a brick and mortar shop I'd already have asked for a refund, but FD luckily gets an unwarranted amount of slack because I don't even know why anymore. Yeah, I know, my fault for spending money on game cosmetics, I should shut up and put up with it like a good boy.

So over the last week, did you think they WEREN'T working on fixes for the cosmetic issue and others?

I was HOPING they were, but who knows?

And it's really more a matter of common courtesy for me if I'm perfectly honest. If they just said "yep we're aware and we're working on this as we speak" I'd have been happy with that. I'm not unreasonable and I'm not demanding a fix yesterday, if you go through my posts you will find that I only ever took issue with the radio silence, not with the lack of a fix.

I like to imagine the laughter in fdev towers when new employees ask about posting on the forums. No son, we don't even subject the interns to that!
DD et al, sure, I wouldn't blame them.

If only there was a sub-section of the forum that is owned by their employer which they could focus their attention on, though.

Oh well, in lieu of that it does make sense to better search the rest of the internet for updates instead, I guess.

A very keen observation. +1.

If I was a CM at FDev, I wouldn't bother addressing/answering most of the issues that are raised here too. I would
  • log the perceived issue
  • monitor how much discussion went on about it
  • raise it at the next monthly review meeting
  • report back to the community when appropriate

I think many people expect non-stop communications and instant/ongoing feedback from companies. Businesses don't work like that.

Surely there's some middle ground between "non-stop communications" and what we've seen the last couple of years. ;)

The silent treatment does work in the right circumstances. A lot of game studios use it when they are working on a new game. They'll be very quiet until they have something to show for the big reveal.

It doesn't work as well though when the game is already released and a lot of the stuff you said players "will be able to" do in the game is still nowhere to be found six years later. Naturally people want to be kept updated, especially since those "promises" made a certain amount of players buy into stuff like a LEP.

Working as intended - or working since someone was too lazy/unable to fix it? Or even didn't see a reason to fix it because too many people defended said exploit? See, you are talking from a formal point of view. I give a crap on formalities, I'm a gamer in the first place, not a servant.

I remember it was in response to the steam reviews ~2016. What about marketing driven?

Yeah i completely agree that the experience without ship progression is worse than it was when you did it from necessity of boredom :) No really, it was better! I feel fortunate to have gone though that era compared to the poor new players today. Its more of social media experience than a space sandbox.

I wish that Frontier would be more like 1C/777 are with Great Battles. Combat Flight sim types can be very demanding but Jason does engage with the forum even when he has to give bad news. The rumpus over the proposed Pacific expansion is still going on even after 2 years but he did give an explanation as to why it is still on hold.
https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/168-developer-diary/ Most weeks we get info on what they are doing with screen shots, videos and some of the research they have done.
