Some thoughts on open only PLAY and how to make it more lucrative

The sole reason why having open only isn't viable is because pvpers ships are murderboats designed to kill other ships quickly.
So level the playing field.
We all have a right to play solo or pg to effect the Bgs, bring exploration data back safely, to wing up and do cz's, to mine ores or farm materials etc.

Cannot argue with that.... it's a nessesary evil due to the constraints of the current game mechanics.
There is no endgame as such, but having a persistent galaxy single mode would go along way to changing that.
The new tritium market for example. Fleet carrier owners employing cmdrs to haul tritium each party making a good living.
Fleshing out the galaxy in ways we can't yet perceive.
Hauling goods or running missions would not feel so boringly safe. An element of risk associated with hazardous occupations.
Remove the PvP build. Limit weps 2 per kind to a ship only one heatsink only 1 scb.
Make resistances relevant to all ships. Nerf weps that ignore shields.
Have pvpers in ships that any non pvping player can duplicate thus not needing a PvP or pve built Fdl etc.
This alone would give any miner ship or hauler a fighting chance to escape.
Pvpers will adapt and find new ways.. ramming perhaps or tow hook (tractor beam) which in turn is countered by an emp pulse blah blah...the race is on.
The playing field is now level.
Incentivise Open over solo.
An increase in yields in mining areas.
A bigger effect on PP & bgs.
More content for explorers to discover within the galaxy. (Suggestions please)
Missions options to complete open only pays better.
Cz's and other combat areas having more players involved in all permutations including player faction vs faction wing combat. Longer instances interdictable by either sides..anyone in fact. Alots already possible but narrow instance windows etc make it hard to join.

Incentivise everyone to multiplay. Having us all in one boat will make the game almost perfect.
We need more..
Signs up at stations clearly seen advertising where gankers are updated minute by minute.
Have em hunted. They'll like that.
Redo notoriety so it's permanent. Constrain gankers murderers to anarchy systems. If they enter low security systems a timer goes off until galaxial feds arrive. Spec ops team lol.
If they enter a high security system the timer goes off again only this time it's just a few minutes.
This mechanic would create safe havens for players to relax in.
Yeah I hear you!
A team of gankers arrives in a high security system..30 gankers all gigging wiping out the local fuzz.. killing a few miners and ... 70 spec ops arrives...npcs with teeth. Imagine the scrap!! I'd jump in just to nail a few gankers in the melee.

My point is.. having us all together IS the way. No doubt wotsoever.
Just working the game to make it possible and be fair to all.
Why? What would explorers and miners and others who don't want PvP get?
Well more content previously mentioned. But an inate sense that we are not alone anymore in the bubble. That we can't get ganked killed in 20 secs anymore...
That we feel more involved and can see other miners maybe group up on the fly. Player wings patrolling borann ll making the whole sandbox theory more immersive.
It has to incentivise everyone. That being together regardless of player type, Is more realistic less silent and more fun.
So much I've not touched here. I'm sure you'll all pick at it and that's your democratic right.
I just ask that it remain constructive and not sink into the 2 camp mire.

Happy days cmdrs
Dragsham

Notes.
Crash sites relog = ban it
Combat logging = banned/not possible
Raptor limpets. = self explanatory? Ah they claw away at non shielded hull
Emp limpets?
Explorers with 100 mill data plus get tagged as they approach the outer bubble..and are escorted in by npc feds... wow that's like royalty.
Ramming more than twice in 30 secs at space stations = flagged and either space station, feds or both nail em.
Those with permanent notoriety forced to decomission fleet carriers.
The open is deserted. I'd love to see factual proof of this. But it's my opinion. Sad. Playing a game with wingmates is fab.
Playing it with 1000s of commanders 99% just doing Their thing would be heaven. I'd sit at jameson memorial whilst scanning wakes just watching 100s of ships come and go... outnumbering the npcs. And none of that ramming crap lol.

Can't expect noobs or those who just don't know and don't bling scbs n sinks..that's not fair.
Most will max cargo etc. But yeah l hear you.

On the note of griefing. Funny! I was just watching a Cloud Imperium updated timeline, and was just applauding CIG for continuing to protect it's players. Stating that they are going to apparently open up potential PVP, but only in certain, unsecure/ low security zones. Something I have been proposing for Elite for ages. Kind of like KOTOR, or other MMOs, like ESO. Designated PVP areas, which some high end missions also happen to take place in, with increased drop rates or reward. I believe Division had this model too. Obviously, this will still displease insecure gamers wanting to entertain themselves or vette out frustration, by cherry picking players, and who insist this is the way and legitimate mechanic, as they will not want to face other players, in specific zones who are better than they. Lol

What's the point of Open only? I'm fine with Solo and PG being completely viable options for game content. 🤷‍♂️

I played in Open exclusively for the first year or so and managed just fine. I've lost ships a total of 5 times and only 2 or maybe 3 were due to PVP, and 2 of those could have been avoided. I don't have anything to prove to myself or otherwise, and I don't care what mode others play in.

Frankly, the high horse of Open is more down to isolated cases of bravado than anything else. Some people have fun making a fuss over it sometimes, but it's nothing to write home about.

What is it with the plethora of open only threads recently?
Maybe open isn't the most popular mode any more, and it is now noticable?
It is interesting how many are springing up recently, compared to say a year ago :)

But, being brutally frank, @Dragsham has made some excellent suggestions in his proposal above - no criticism there from me - but they don't actually address why players do not use it exclusively, only attempts to make the prospect of playing in open more attractive.

Even I don't play exclusively in open over my accounts, main is probably 99% but the 2 alts rarely bother as the friends I play along with on alt 1 don't want their limited play time 'blessed' by other randoms and alt 2 just plays alone anyway so has no need, nor desire, to be in the 'social' mode :)
(This account is alt 2)

Possibly. But then it does lead to the question why.

Online games have a plus and a minus. The plus is other players. The minus is other players.
Perhaps the influx of new miners players have discovered that more can be achieved in any mode other than open? The 'social' chat is now pan-modal (in itself both good and bad :) ) so even from solo a player can still join in with the banter.

Maybe it is simply that sufficient numbers of players just want to get on with 'their game' and have realised that, in truth, open doesn't really offer anything - bar encounters with random strangers (again possibly good or bad) - that the other modes lack.

@Havvk
How so? A hauler or miner has goods on board.. sometimes mission related or bgs related merits delivery etc etc. Losing 400ton of ltds isn't good.
But if you mean the pvper should be punished yes!
But before you build a miner ship maxed cargo think mebbe a scb small shields a hull or module reinforcement etc. Give you a fighting chance.. build just a hollow maxed cargo and you'll die and should do. Have to think about compromise with builds. Ain't all cargo

Hauler risks losing his ship, even potentially up to several hours of mining, his mission and takes a loss to rep from mission giver, loses cargo and the money he spent buying it for selling elsewhere. All gone and now he has even less money than he had when starting up the game.

What does the attacker risk?

Nothing, maybe a small rebuy, maybe even a couple of minutes time wasted from having to do rebuy and fly back to the "hunting grounds", but that is likely replaced in seconds after just one good haul pirated off a full and very slow ship. The imbalance is obvious, and everybody who refuses to acklowledge this fact are either blind or they intentially want the game to stay as it is so they can have ez prey without any risk at all, then get bored of the game after 2 weeks of ganking and then say the game sux.

Open doesn't need to be more lucrative. Every claimed downside of the mode, every reason people avoid it, is an incentive for those who don't.
