Odyssey: speculations about new passengers missions

I'm really curious to know if there will be new passenger transport missions unlocked by legs, atmospheric planets and new SRV types (this last one is pure speculation).

So I'm particulary curious to know if we will be able to see our passengers and if they will interact with our ships. Even if we have the terrible transition on-board/off-board (so no legs inside ships) it would be nice to see them walking to our ship and get onboard.

Will we have new SRV for passengers trasport? So this would be interesting if we have new locations on planets where we have to take them and we can't fly directly to it with our ship. For example flight restricted area, caves, etc.

Will we see new touristic POIs on atmospheric planets with touristic resorts where we have to take our passengers to?

As additional gameplay it would be nice to have the new profession of space liner pilot where we have to work on our reputation based on flight confort (service on board and smooth maneuvers).
But I also understand that it would be a very niche gameplay so the chances to see something like that are terribily low.

I have no idea, but have some fuel for your speculation ;)

Like, on one hand, the whole 'transpose the current mission system down to the ground' aspect of Odyssey feels like it could fit with some of this. Say 'drive a tourist to a POI' jobs, as you suggest.

On the other hand, I wonder if Odyssey's 'red carpet for the noobs' focus will mean it offers ways for new players to not fly if they don't want to? IE shuttles to destinations within systems etc potentially?

Or indeed lifts from Cmdrs, if we undercut the the station services? ;)

FDev's record for NPC interaction so far has not been up to much. So, I wouldn't hold out for NPCs interacting with our ships in any shape or form (sadly).

I would like to see them beg for their life when I jettison them into some neutron star. Not even your legs can save you now, stupid!

I look at that image (and have several times before) and it occurs to me...

It looks a bit like Borderlands? It's concept, of course, but maybe it's how the shading on the avatars look...it seems similar to the 'rough sketch' of Borderlands. I don't mind that, of course, but I found it curious. Obviously, that's now how it would look in-engine.

Think that's just an affectation for the concept art. We've already got the avatars in-game and they don't look like that ;)

(On a speculative front, I am intrigued to see if FDev are looking to inject more RPG-lite into the game. In the sense of mission-givers in the flesh / classic foot missions etc. If that's where the core focus of the DLC is?)

You'll have to hand deliver the 1t of domestic appliances they're demanding.

"Here's the 3,000 toasters you requested. We truly are one of the top 1% of cruise ships out there. Enjoy your flight!"

We shall see. On the one hand, I appreciate that Elite does not have RPG elements in it beyond ownership of tools and assets (ships and modules). On the other, I sometimes wonder if some basic 'RPG-lite' (as you put it) would benefit the game. In my opinion, I'd incorporate the Codex (achievements) at a deeper and more meaningful level, expand the significance of the reputation systems (the game is literally named for a Rank, after all), and perhaps expand NPC crew management systems as part of a first stage overhaul of multi-crew (which should have happened in the first place).

shrugs

Or it'll be hyperspace grind, supercruise grind, hop out, shoot stuff, hop in, hyperspace grind, supercruise grind, and turn in.

Like the rest of the game.
Which, I mean, works. If it didn't, these forums would be long dead.
But, as always, it could be so much better.

Yeah these are the type of areas they might try and leverage. Like you say, essentially keeping the core approach they have (of keeping player skill and knowledge unquantified, but allowing specialisation through kit / alliegances etc). They could do some intriguing things on the human scale if that was their focus.
