La Superba

For anyone looking for somewhere to take the carrier on a shakedown cruise, around 1000LY above the bubble is this gem of a system. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Superba

Video starts after a decent from orbit down to around 20km (66,000ft), almost double the cruising height of an Airliner. From that altitude you really start to gauge how immense this crater is (I can only imagine what an impact of that size would look like)

The planet is 2.5g, so surface operations in the SRV are pleasant, around 16 Geo sites to visit. The crater is epic though, could easily fit some of earths continents. The giant Carbon star is the icing on the cake.

Think I'll be staying here for a while!

Here's some notes I copy pasted from others that have visited similar locations.

CARBON STAR CLOSE, HIP 43123 1
Tourist Spot 0258
Commander Gradis recommends this interesting planet orbiting close to a carbon star. It's on the periphery of the sun's exclusion zone yet can be landed. Due to the massive size of the star a limit of .33 is will be encountered for the majority of the travel and this will lead to a build up of heat. Most craft will not be able to land but for the tourist who seeks danger, and the unique sight of having a star fill the entire horizon, it may be worth the risk.

Hades Edge
HD 49368 is the system. It's not too far from the Gnosis' current location and I highly recommend checking it out! I'm surprised there isn't a tourist beacon here already as there are some amazing sights. I've only explored a fraction of the system so far, so here's a little preview.

Well said!

Bookmarked.

Edit: I've been to HIP 43123 before, the views are spectacular there also but that canyon in the OP's video is something else. Can't wait to speed through that.

I was getting speeds of up to 1300 m/s in the racing eagle, the drop from the mountain peaks down to the basin is around 60km (Everest is around 8km) so you are constantly accelerating with FA-OFF. Stunning location, I had a mate try it out in the reverb for the first time., great introduction to Elite & VR.

Thankfully I didn't have to worry about my mate crashing and sending me back to the bubble, carrier was 11,000 km away in low orbit.

Sounds great. Have several speedsters, that place seems made for them.

Incidentally, I have just jumped my carrier out of Hades Edge, one of my favorite systems. :)

Arrived at Hades Edge this morning, only a few jumps in the Carrier. Was expecting my ship to overheat, took a T-10 down, no issues at all. Views are stunning, this terrain and gravity is perfect for the SRV, it sticks like an F1 car.

You NEED to fly on those rings in the first 2 planets. View is breathtaking.

Hey guys,

Bumping this thread, been away from ED during the whole pandemic, back exploring with Odyssey. The crater above sadly no longer exists, still, I've come across plenty of amazing places in EDO, I guess you win some you lose some.

My question is regarding the planetary crash sites in EDO, this planet has around 9 crash sites, and each has cargo racks that can be opened with the Arc Cutter, I can't seem to pick up the contents on foot or using the SRV, any ideas how I pick up the cargo?

These are not regular cargo containers.

Cheers
