Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I would be misleading if I said people can walk in ED cockpits because only VR players can do it and there is no gameplay (like exploration in SC).

You did say that but of course we did not take you literally, I presume we all understand that you were not trying to mislead potential ED buyers, but making a point about about dedicated gameplay features (or lack of them) in ED and SC.
When the Evocati have finished testing, I will be exploring the hopefully improved Grim Hex, and any other new locations that they add in the future, both on foot and from the fantastic view from my starter ship cockpit. I do not mean to lead people to think that I have an exploration scanner or other such device. Just the simple pleasure of seeing something new for myself. I invite you at the next free fly to give it a go! (without having to add to CR's retirement fund). I doubt it will be as good as seeing earth from orbit in ED VR, but still worth a look. I note that you say that you do not own the game, why not give it a go on the next free fly week?

I was not expecting that answer.
I just thought you were here to make fun of SC and people who enjoy it.
You like SC in the same way that I like a certain politician then.

I don't think anyone is here to make fun of SC and the people who enjoy it.

I enjoy SC. Very few IT projects have filled me with so much mirth. A decade in, a third of a billion dollars in funding, and it's not even been released yet because absolutely everything needs constant rework before it is fit for release, yet all their development time is spent of making jpegs and shiny videos of already outdated concepts :D

Remember that lovely Vandull showcase video they did years ago to try and convince people actual work had been performed? Waste of time, money, and effort - as all of it has been refactored into oblivion and back multiple times. The constant reworks themselves need constant rework as CI-G has absolutely no design documentation in place, as evidenced by the designs of absolutely everything needing constant rework. Perhaps worst of all, none of this constant rework of ever-changing assets and "in-'Verse physicality" is worth the pixels they are composed of until there is a functional and fit-for-purpose network architecture and implementation to make a multiplayer game with the claimed 1000+ player environments with a suitable infrastructure to back it. Until they have that, everything else is just spilled shandy in the wind.

You just can't make this kind of thing up.

Is ther a date for the next freefly?

So, what have we learned today?

That they still haven't decided on what laser fire from vandull ships should look like 8 years after kickstarter and 6 years after SQ42 was almost finished.

A whole word salad about using SSE... something that has been around since early Pentium days (but it sounds good, backers will lap it up and think they understand game development)

They are still working on hair.

Combat bartender! "They also began leveraging the usable system functionalities of the bartender in a combat scenario." I'm sure there is the making of a Stallone or Shwarzenneger film here.... possibly Van Damme. They really love that bartender AI!

Once again, 6 years after CIG said SQ42 was almost finished, just needed a bit of polish. 6 years after CR at citizencon said he would put SQ42 up against any other AAA game out there.

Since not everyone here follows the refund sub, i'll share these gems done by QuaversAndWotsits.

Hoping for more!

Less of a road map and more like a white cane — one that has been folded into a silly straw because Chris saw those once three deaces ago and thought it would be a neat never-done-before idea.

Apparently the bartender is with Evocati

The Bartender is working well in the latest evocati patch with very little issues. NPCs will walk up to the bar and order drinks. If you show up while he is tending to a NPC, he will tell you to wait.

If there is another NPC or player waiting at the bar before you, the bartender tends to them first, then you. You literally gotta wait in line at the bar, just like real life lmao

You can walk to any part of the bar and he’ll make his way to you.

There are minor issues like animation delay and snapping. I honestly don’t see the AI being delayed.

It’s only in two locations at the moment: M&V @ Lorville and Bar @ Grim Hex.

Rest Stops, Area 18’s Bar & Levski’s bar haven’t been updated yet.

So, basically after 3 years of working on this and hyping it up, they have achieved an AI on the level of something that could be whipped up in an afternoon by a comptent dev.

I'm not even a competent dev but i could whip up an AI like this (hell, better with more features) in NWN2 using NWScript in a few hours.

Well done CIG! Once again you show how its possible to make something simple into something incredibly complex.

There does seem to be an inability to see the wood for the trees.

As a side note, the bartender AI won't be realistic unless I'm positively the last sentient being to be served.

Sounds like HR nonsense speak to me.

If it is the same job then this- ENJOY
