Your favourite exploration music?

As the title says. if you don't watch TV or listen to the in-game music, what bands or types of music do you listen to?

I'll start

I really enjoy "The Midnight" they have a good pace and a great electronic sound that keeps me motivated when discoveries are slim and far between.

If you like these guys check out "NOCTURNAL". I think this is their best album, you going to love it. I figured this kind of music works better in analog, so I made a copy of this and few other albums on a fresh TDK MA tape and playing it on Nakamichi CR7 deck when out there in the black. Now we talking 😜

When travelling, swoop scooping as fast as possible in my paper plane Mamba, I like listening to Vegas by Crystal Method. It's not for everyone, but swoop scooping in the Mamba, while listening to Vegas makes the journey almost seem like a music video. The music has a lot of breaks etc. and when you line up the countdown/jump so that it matches the music, it's simply epic. Especially if you stuff a lot of Onion Head under the dash and run the PP hot, so that the cockpit is constantly filled with fumes, kind of like the Oracle from Delphi ;)

Here's a teaser:

Metallica, Slayer, Death, Anthrax, Megadeth, The Presidents of the USA, Rammstein, 5 Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, Evanescence, Nickleback, Gary Numan, Robbie Williams, Garbage, Alanis Morrisette, The Corrs, Headswim, Muse, Duran Duran, Aha, Bach, Beethoven, Barber, John Wlliams,Tears For Fears, Natalie Imbruglia. Quite a mix...ooh forgot Korn, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers!

I listen to very different music and mostly electronic. And If I were to point something space themed and accessible I'd definitely point X2 game soundtrack. I'm a veteran X-series player, a space sim game created by Egosoft. Spent hundreds of hours startong from from X2, though X3. Their recent title is X4 and I haven't played X4 yet as I'm waiting for more content and refinement of this title. Nevertless soundtrack from both X2 and X3 is good for spacefaring and blends well with Elite.

After a conversation on this forum the other night, I was reminded of the excellent album Crystal Machines by Tim Blake. Electronic music with a proper 'spaced out' feel to it. He was a former member of both Gong and Hawkwind. The album is insanely good and really sits in the ears nicely when playing Elite, particularly when exploring. Released in 1977 it still sounds amazing today. The full album is available to listen to on YT.

That is quite the eclectic mix. Whilst I can't agree with a lot of your choices, I sincerely applaud the variety.

The Bermuda Triangle- Isao Tomita.

Excellent, Tomita is so underrated, normally shoved behind Vangelis

I like listening to Vegas by Crystal Method.

Just given this a listen, wasn't aware of it before. I love it, thank you. It's a bit more lively than the normal electronic music I listen to for exploring but this would suit me just dandy in a wing combat mission that I undertake in solo.

No one else listening to spoken word stuff rather than music, whilst far from home?
I’m listening almost exclusively to audiobooks and podcasts when doing low-concentration tasks like exploration or mining. Currently finishing a full play through of the Dresden Files in anticipation of the new book dropping next week.

yeah I'm all over the shop, it helps that I play guitar, bass and keyboard.....all very badly! ;) So I spread out amongst music. Recently learnt how to play Ghostbusters, Addams Family, Pink Panther and Toccata and Fugue in D minor (only 1st 2 minutes of the latter so far) on kb.

I find it too distracting if I'm in a CZ or RES. Then again, I was trying it out with the Feynman physics lectures, which was pretty dumb. Maybe I'll try it again when I'm FSS'ing or 110,000ls out from something. :p

Lately for me it's been Ryuichi Sakamoto soundtracks, the Church, Gary Numan, and lots and lots of New Order.

Love all the other lists here! Gonna borrow some, guys!
