Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

oh, look, another citizen that made an account in a forum of a game he doesn't play only to defend and promote his game dream.
Defend yes, only when I see something false. Promote no. I come from SC and I am new to ED (bought the game 2 weeks ago).

True. It's more like brain death, with backers money as IMV. :)
A patch every 3 months with enhancements, more gameplay, lots of bugs, more players, more hours played for the average player. It's the opposite of death.

For real, where did you saw the project is dead ? Have you some secret infos to give us ?
It progress slowly, but it gets more and more alive patch after patch. Player base growing, funding growing, gameplay growing, techs growing... like it or not, it's the opposite of death.

He means he believes the project is as good as dead (if i may presume to speak for him).

The game promised over the years is never going to be made and its questionable whether CIG can even make a half decent game that can be released to the public. But from what we see from CIG, they have been backing off on making a hard release for years, and it may never even reach the point of a release. I mean, why make a release that means you can no longer hide behind ITS ALPHA! to defend every misstep and delay? CIG don't even need to do the defending. Backers will do that for them and then throw them another few million.

This has to be the first game ever developed where those invested give the developer more money the worse they do. Your statement that it gets more "alive" (whatever you mean by that) is bizarre when patches have been getting more and more gutted each time round and release just seems to become more and more a distant dream.

You can excuse those who jumped in early, they perhaps had a rose tinted view of CR's ability to deliver, had never heard of what happened with Freelancer or just assumed CR had learned his lessons in project management (turns out, he just blamed evil publisher for not giving him as much time and money as he wanted). Those who came later had no excuse for not seeing that CR was not a good lead for the project, even though he was good at selling dreams... and that in itself should have been a big warning sign. Those who sell the biggest dreams tend to be those who have no idea on how to actually deliver on those dreams. For every dream merchant who has succeeded, history is littered with those who have failed.

Some say "Its my money, i think he can do it, so ill give him money" and that is fine, but there seems to be an unshakable belief that CR will succeed despite any warning signs. All problems are waved away, CIG's statements are accepted without question, and anyone who dares to say CIG are not doing well are lablled as haters and FUDsters.

Sorry, i don't think Chris has learned anything over the years, and he's making all the same mistakes he made in the past, with Strike Commander and Freelancer. Just backers think if they keep throwing money at him, it will all somehow come together.

Nah...it's not that I guess because previous patch(3.8) was working far better it was much more stable I could play much longer and if I avoid all the known bugs I could end my session "normally" and wake up in the ship bed next time I logged in.....now game just snaps randomly and most of the time I can't even do one delivery....Hey @Mole HD is that common issue for this patch?
It is for this patch indeed. Some folks have very few issues, others are having a nightmare...random server stuff.

They're certainly growing new die hard supporters...is there are a tree somewhere they're all falling out of? ;)

Welcome to the bear pit BTW....always nice to see a new face...and one who plays SC instead of just talking about it.

Why not, with such a budget SC had, with such a team (maybe more centered towards network engineering, and much less mo-cap and hollywood A-list stars...), and a semi-competent management it would certainly be possible, at least if we keep at the initial KS promise of a multiplayer universe. What has killed this project outright is the rotten management, the blatant nepotism, and that Crytek connection. With a dedicated engine, which would have meant maybe 2 to 3 years of blackout at the start, this project would be a reality by today.
You can make a lot work. SWTOR had a fighter mode, a MP starfighter mode, the story mode, a PvP arena mode, a decoration mode.
Warframe has several modes, too. The most unique one maybe "Lunaro" - a ball game. Shooters like Battlefield feature different modes with rule variations. Or an additional SP campaign.
MMOs might be interested in offering little additional games to keep players logging in. The PvP fighter in SWTOR wasn't so bad. It's just that it made little sense in the context of the story mode. The story campaigns in shooters usually are short, shyty and not really worth playing. The key is making a core gameplay experience that is fun and coherent. There is a set of things you can usually add on before it becomes a mess. Because if you start if one thing and go clueless from there you get ever branching possibilities you can never possibly make work in a lifetime. And adding toilet mechanics usually calls for bowel mechanics and that calls for some survival maybe. Without a bracket of supporting activities it's not worth anything (apart from the obligatory mirror you need to have at the restroom). Just like barkeep mechanics do nothing because they are without context.

It's growing the same way as hair or fingernails growing after death. And even if you allow for that being a myth, and an illusion due to the skin shrinking, the analogy still applies.
The dream died years ago. The games have gotten further away from their goals, not closer, as Roberts kept adding new features to the to-do list while failing to achieve the milestones he had already set.
Roberts and his inner circle appear to have all but bailed from the project at this point.

Nope, nope, and thrice nope!

Genuine Roberts is hard at work refactoring the physics engine and inventing netcode squirreled away somewhere with an XB360 controller. He's also putting the final polishing steps on the official SATABall rules and getting feedback on every single mission of Behind Enemy Lines from the secret build. I would not be surprised if he's gracefully putting his valuable time overseeing the team putting together a special custom-made red carpet for the premiere screening of Squadron 42 on board a yacht in Monaco.

They may have 'bailed', I presume that is a conspiracy guess as much as this one is from me.
It is possible they may have been advised to keep a low profile by the new investors, if so it is a good call if you believe the increase in reported funding since they disappeared. Also as some think that Roberts is an incompetent manager and a scam artist, if they have bailed is it not good news for the project and to be welcomed? The increased funding can be used to put the project back on track without the his input. Looks like a win win scenario for some folk.

To be fair while I had loads of complaints about poor design choices in my recent foray, No complaints about frame rate this time. especially after following the suggestions to turn off v sync and turn of the face app thingy

I didn't try to play with other players though, not sure how much difference that makes. I saw a few, they were the ones running round the space port at 40mph :ROFLMAO:

I believe its heading up to the second anniversary of the Calder loan. We seem to have been in a relentless funding drive over the last several months. Do we have a debt servicing milestone incoming? We still have no release of anything, could there be penalty clauses factoring in here?

The project cannot be put back on track. It's too burdened with technical debt to ever make an MMO. This is why the last year has been spent on art assets and other lesser development. And why there is only one "Core Tech" item on the roadmap.

The increased funding is from more inventive ship sales from the marketing team. Happy Foundation Festival tomorrow everyone!

The Kickstarter was in 2012. Don't you think it's odd that they were supposed to have 100 star systems but today it only has one incomplete system? And there are no planets or moons listed on the roadmap?

Obviously the 100 star system of old are outdated and dont count anymore. Todays star systems have such a high resolution, size and can be walked upon (something that again obviously wasnt planned back in 2012) that even a single crater holds more content then the entirety of Skyrim and thats just one single crater of one single planet. Can you even picture the vast amount of content available to you? I mean the potential surely is worth 500 million dollars in private peoples money dont you think?

It is possible they may have been advised to keep a low profile by the new investors, if so it is a good call

But if they were not advised its a bad call? Not sure how the logic is to be applied here? Are we going down the "whatever CR decides or does is good for Star Citizen" with this? And the funding somehow confirms that whatever happens is a good sign? I would think that if CR left the project (indeed the greatest news for the project) this would be something that would be announced in the "most transparent project ever" but I guess thats another argument thats only getting whipped out when it benefits the narrative?

You should know by now that none of the posts here provide definite answers to any question regarding Star Citizen. But we all have our opinions and right now, most of them are still intact. A few people go overboard with the dream but yeah....hype is a powerful tool and some people are vulnerable to that ^^

Lets assume CR has bailed without letting anybody know and the people left behind keep it a secret for whatever reason. Do you really think thats good for Star Citizen? I consider it a fact that CR held back development massively but the project doesnt automatically does any better without him. Mostly because it still has no capable leadership or management and if somebody took over....why isnt that announced? Personally I dont see SC going anywhere anymore so CR leaving is "at best" a confirmation of my view all along. Pretty much everything coming out of CIG these days mostly confirms the naysayers and requires more and more justification to appear "alright". In the end nobody had the power to remove Chris Roberts. We dont know the investor details but I cant believe any of them would have the option to do that. So CR leaving would be his own decision and we can speculate about his reasons for doing so but again....I cant think of any that would be good for the project.

With how bad Star Citizen is doing I would assume that people would look even closer and pay attention to even the smallest details. But instead many SC backers demonstrate the opposite. The worse things become the more acceptant, tolerant and resigned they become in turn. Nothing is ever bad for the project. The funding can always be relied on to justify everything and when there is no known or plausible reason theres always the "I m sure everything is fine" reply.

Personally I m glad that this circus is still going strong and providing new laughs every day. You cant make this stuff up ^^
