Ships Krait v Python

Krait Mk II if you want to focus on your combat rank. It has an extra large hardpoint and you can carry a fighter hangar. The Phantom should be your steed of choice if you want to prioritise jump range, as it's lighter without them

Remember your NPC crew member will take a share of any kills they are involved in, so once you've ranked them up enough for them to be really effective (they rank up much faster so it doesn't take long ) don't send them out unless you think you need them. Of course you'll probably finish off enemies so much quicker with their help (and distraction) that it becomes moot ;)
Perfect, thank you.

I am closing in on the funds for a ship in the 50mil range.

Reviewing some Fandom and Youtube reviews I am between the Python and Krait MK2 for a multipurpose vessel.

I usually mine and run cargo missions with some exploration on the side.

For people who have had both before did you have a preference when comparing final stats?

I have Phantom, MK2, and Python.

I like both Kraits over the Python. Since your question was MK2 or Python, I'd say MK2. More fun to fly, IMHO.

Personally, the Phantom is the 2nd favorite ship I own (I love my DBS).

Good point for context. Around 48 mil right now. I only play solo, got about 100 or so hours into the game so far.

No access to engineering yet. Just trying to build up funds and explore a bit before I really dive in.

Was thinking about getting into a Vulture to build my combat legs so I wanted to build a courier/miner tank to fund other things.

When you get to the point of having access to the engineers, and have the credits, you can build a Python that can haul 180T elite missions and take out anything and everything that tries to interdict it. I love getting interdicted by those fat condas, as they drop some really nice mats. :)

Learn a little FA off and boost turns and even the little fast movers are no problem.

It may be something to aspire to. Or not. :)

I love the Krait MK2. If you are doing PVE dog fighting, nothing beats having a fighter. I built up my crew and they can take out smaller enemies without my help. With the GU-97 Guild F (45 DPS), they can also pare down enemy shields on bigger ships pretty well, making them much easier to take out. In PVP, players will ignore the fighter, so they are much less effective. PVE opponents will go after them, splitting enemy fire.

I've just been comparing a Krait build to my actual Python build. Manoeuvrability wise, 1-2° difference, Python has better roll, Krait better pitch.
Python carries 230 t compared to 148 t of Krait, but it has shorter jump when fully laden, some 2.5 ly. 88 t is a big difference for mission running and mining.
Speed wise, Krait is slightly faster, some 20-30 m/s both normal and in boost, not that big of a difference.
Python has better armour and shield, but no SLF.

All in all, I find Python a better choice. Mine can run large missions and still beat NPC interdictors, 5xMC eat deadly Anacondas really quickly.
And if I need a combat ship, I'd always go with a dedicated ship, in my case a hybrid-tank FAS.

Plus, I don't like that overhang above the Krait's cockpit.

Tried both, I keep and run a Python now for a change from my Conda. G5 Dirty Drives, G5 FSD and then G5 Efficient Beam, 2 x G5 Overcharged C2 Bursts & 2 x G5 Overcharged C3 MCs. You can go G5 military armour or G5 Reinforced and tank. A beast.

1. As I recall, there was no pitch in Elite 1 at all.
2. And Krait MK2 is far from the Elite 1 fighter.

P.S. I still don't understand why the LSF put Krait on it.

Thanks to this thread I’m now going to take a Python and a Mk2 Krait to go bug hunting. I was originally only going to take one.
The plan now is to put Different types of shields and weapons on them so that when I get to bugland I can try out different payloads and shield combo’s till I find something that fits my play style.
at the moment I’m currently out shopping for mats, got a couple of weapon blueprints, might want a few more and I also need three mod blueprints.
Then it’s a day or so hunting/trading some G5 mats before buying two spanking new ships, it’s a shame they don’t do second hand ones if only for flavour.
Now a lightly armed, heavily shielded/armoured mini carrier would be ideal for this logistically and tactically seeing as delivering fighters into a hot zone would make it a great platform for a Quick Reaction Force.
