Notice GalNet changes

From last night's livestream ...

"Galnet and community goals currently are not in our roadplan ...
but if that does change or if we do decide to bring them back in we will let you know"

So, I'm afraid, as I rather suspected, it seems the surprise Galnet article which dropped with the June fleet carrier release (the one about nanomed's) was nothing more than a lost article that FD found down the back of the sofa when they were sweeping up the last of Galnet's rotting corpse.

Wow. Just wow.

:EDITL

I'm sat here for the last 10 minutes thinking of what I have to say about it, but I can't think of anything. I'm quite literally speechless. I did not expect THAT.

I think it tells a lot about what direction Frontier wants to push Elite in. Wow.

:EDIT:

I still can't believe it. GalNet was always a fundamental part of Elite. No Galnet, no Elite. This is unbelievable...

Galnet and community goals currently are not in our roadplan

There is more anoucement of what is not in the road map than is actualy in.
The only anoucement we get was the odyssey trailer but actualy no road map to rely on.
We just have speculative clue made by people who try analyse this trailer.

Promise too much thing that you can't deliver is not a good mekting strategy because you create disapointement, but giving no information at all is quite disapointing too.
As a player and consumer I need information of what is going on to project myself in a log term of engagement.

Junary 2021 is just right in the corner, I can't beleive you don't already have a communication plan for what we can expect for this next big milestone. And if you don't have anything to show us montly to keep up hte hype until the release I start to fear that this content is not quite has big as expected....

I hope i'm wrong

EDIT

Self-moderated / removed my VERY ANGRY rant about this. The level of disappointment I have in Frontier right now cannot be expressed without risk of getting myself banned from the forums, so I'll just leave it at that...

Time for FD to come out with a "sneak peak" as to what replaces Galnet and CGs/ IIs ..... I suspect "Community Hubs" may have something to do with this, but without evidence it can only be speculation.

To be honest I heard Stephen say it, but I didn't think anything of it. I'd already assumed this was a given.

There was no way they were going to bring it back this year, and since the release of Odyssey got pushed back, it was obvious it wouldn't come back till around the end of the year. Yeah they could bring Community Hubs into it and form that into the new Galnet, encorporating IIs into it as well. But I can't see it to be honest. And with Mr. Kirby left too, I don't know if there's anyone left on the team who cares about Galnet and CGs.

If they are going to replace it, then they need to REPLACE it, even if they replace it with nothing. In other words, remove all references to Galnet and CGs from the game. A crazy amount of UI has been dedicated to these. Galnet is available in the log-in screen, main menu, station menu, ship menu, etc., along with audio reading controls. If it's dead, bury the corpse and be done with it, don't let it just sit and decay in front of us - that stinks, literally!

Wait, when did that happen?
It was a few weeks ago. He didn't want to make a big fuss, which I respected, but I think is a shame. Because he was involved in lots of the parts that make this game great, and a lot I was involved in.
The Riddles, the Treasure Hunts, Player submitted Galnet articles, Galnet, CGs, the Colonia Expanse initiative, Ed's 38... The list goes on.

He has another job, but hasn't revealed where it is yet. He did leave a message for us, which I'll make my video of public now.

I can't believe I've put over 3500 hours in the game and over 8000 hours (that is my time on my community's forums) in creating and developing a community focused on fitting in Elite lore and creating our own story within the game... only to have Galnet - the only representation of the Elite story - canned. I can't even...

For me - Elite just lost yet another one of the things I loved it for... I think it's time to think a few things over.

Pretty sure it was directly confirmed at the time that that Galnet article was simply following what had been set out i.e. it was just related to an in-game happening, specifically the introduction of a new rare good.

You and me both. Had I known this a week ago, I doubt I would have spent real money on Arx and an Alt. It's a mistake I'll not make again.

I should have known better...

I’m missing something here... There’s nothing new that’s been said. It was just a reiteration of what the situation’s been for ages.

This is what amazes me so much about it actually, Frontier haven't tended to "waste" work they put in (sometimes to the detriment of the game overall in my opinion!) and they seem to LOVE UI work! It's what a whole lot of the "features" boil down to.

Amazed... There was a whole "GalNet Audio!!!! WOOO!" thing when that got released.

This is utterly stunning.

I never liked the "fluff" from GalNet - but that wasn't to say I didn't want that stuff, I just wanted that stuff WITH something in game for any article that came out.

The door of hope was open before, because Frontier said Galnet & CGs were "on hold" as developers focused on fleet carriers and Odyssey. This latest announcement basically says, "There is no plans to bring back Galnet & CGs, EVER." Door slammed shut, hope shot through the heart, dead.

You are missing something yeah.

They originally said, they were only going to make GalNet have actual in game related things in it.
They said before, that they weren't currently doing GalNet, as they needed the writers for the odyssey stuff.

This is the first time they've specifically said that GalNet wasn't even being considered for coming back in any form.

I was expecting a long hiatus while odyssey was released, then a load of new ways for the writers to create GalNet articles, WITH in game content linked to it - as, there would be the possibility to interact with actual NPCs, which would make the story telling part a bit easier.
