Notice GalNet changes

Remember this? ...... Should we give it back ?

Or .... should we fly a fleet of these as a protest into the next Livestream? :D

That will be the next thing they pull in the game of kerplunk that this games design has been lately... "Due to new graphics upcoming features we are unable to keep track of special edition paint jobs, so commencing with next thursday's server tick, any paintjob that was not bought with ARX will be removed from game".

I think one of the reasons Frontier has allowed Galnet to slide is because they've become dependent on 3rd-party apps and content providers. This is why a lot of the in-game tools are subpar. Remember back when all the 3rd party developers went on strike? I kinda wish they'd do that again (though I know they won't), just to prove a point.

It does make me wonder, have these third party apps truly been beneficial to the game, or have they hindered its growth? Had Frontier been forced to provide their own tools, maybe the game itself would be better. Oh well. If only I could replace the Galnet buttons with "Obsidian News", "The Buur Pit", and "Sagittarius Eye".

I think the answer to that question is the Oracle CODEX ... even though INARA and EDDB etc. existed, this was supposed to be the ultimate source of in-game information, and we know how that has turned out ..... yes, half baked :(

I do wonder if part of the thinking behind the removal of Galnet for now at least is that it creates a lot of translation engineering debt, this may represent a significant ongoing cost that Frontier feel could be better used elsewhere.

One of the noticeable changes to the UI in recent times has been the incorporation of Ideograms/pictograms to represent things in the game, rather than words. Ideograms/pictograms apart from being better for the mind. We actually compute their meaning faster than words, also reduce the need for written language within the game.
And, it becomes so simple, and intuitive, that it can't be used. :)

Nothing’s changed since last week bud. What was said isn’t new, it’s the same thing that’s been said for months.

To reiterate:

  • no plans to bring back fluff
  • Galnet only covering in-game things that people can get involved in
  • In general, nothing in that category is going on, so no related Galnet articles as a result
  • Introducing a new rare good was actually in in the relevant category so got a Galnet article

It’s still all as per what was said earlier in the year, and many times since.

Just heard the news and no seems worse than the above.

Otherwise Brewer Corp Releasing Fleet Carriers would have made GalNet

I mean it is weird that in the Streams on Carriers Brewer Corp being their manufacturer was brought up a few times.

So there was an opportunity for a "Press release" By Brewer Corp to indicate they were entering the Personal Megaship Market.

Even the Open beta could have been advertised as Brewer Corp currently running Shakedown tests.

Then it would appear on the game launcher for Fleet Carrier release visibility

If the release of Fleet Carriers doesn't meet the qualification of "Galnet only covering in-game things that people can get involved in" then nothing will

Look at this page

Soon everything will have expired and it will be blank

Systems being remanded made the news once, but even now the latest patch had renamed systems but even that doesn't get Galnet comment

I just heard the news. Frankly, I am not surprised. Like a lot of other people, my future hopes rest upon Odyssey. Right now I can entertain the notion that Odyssey is going to be so full of content and new features, that such niceties as CGs and GALNET are no longer going to be necessary. If that doesn't prove to be the case, if Odyssey is just a tacked-on FPS component and little else, then I think the game might be finished for good as announcements like this one just further poison's Frontier's well. I know it reduces my enthusiasm for the game. Yet again.

As I've said too many times over the last few years, in all my years of gaming, I've never seen a developer actively remove content from a game before. It is really bizarre.
