Newcomer / Intro Marco Qwent Question for the Sirius Permit

Hello - I seem to be having a horrible time unlocking the Sirius permit. I am currently at Titus Station in the HIP 8396 system. I have become Allied with the Sirius Corporation in this system. When I got there I was Neutral. Opened the Mission Board and found a LOT of "Donation" mission$$. I must have donated 5 Million, killed like 500 ships at the NAVB, and worked my way to "Allied". Now what? I assume there's supposed to be a Permit Unlock Mission for the Sirius System but no such luck. I have logged the board a munch of times and still, there's just more credit donation missions and a couple of Disable the Turret Power Grid (which I tried and failed at) but so far, there's no Permit Unlock mission showing up. I have checked out all the Stations (all in this system have Sirius Corporation as Controlling Faction but all have same missions of donate or take out some power grids on Mega Ships but NO Permit Unlock Mission. Am I doing something wrong? I read somewhere that I should be IN the Sirius System to get this mission, but I thought I need a Permit TO get into this system? Confused. Any advice would be helpful. I don't want to fly all the way to Sirius if that's not what I should be doing? Thanks!

Sirius is a permit-locked system in the Core Systems and the headquarters of the Sirius Corporation.
Access to Sirius requires a permit which can be obtained by becoming allied with the Sirius Corporation minor faction, and accepting the Permit Acquisition Opportunity mission from the Mission Board.

I totally logged out and even flew to other stations in this system, controlled by Sirius and there's only the same one or two missions given by the Controlling Sirius Corp., and that's one or two mission to either disable 1 or 5 Mega Ship Turrets and nothing else at all by my "Ally" and neither of these are Sirius Permit missions. Totally confused.

Not to worry, it'll show up. I had to jump around to Sirius Corp. controlled stations for quite some time before I finally hit paydirt in, I think, Procyon or thereabouts.

Marco Qwent is a [insert word here that would most certainly be censored]. ;)

Thanks! I am going to hang it up for tonight, still not showing that "Permit Mission". I was just about to fly over to "Procyon", it's about 300Lys away from me, but didn't want to make the trip if the Permit Mission will spawn IN the system I am in now, but, I do have to head that way anyway, so if no mission tomorrow... off to Procyon. I'll say, a lot of people complain about ED being a grind, but I find it to be a very fun grind... but THIS Sirius Permit IS TOO MUCH! I just read that once you get the Sirius Permit Mission, there's yet still another mission to get the actual invite to Qwent. WT?

Yes currently you are just getting access to the system Marco works in which you could be doing without having done anything to do with engineering, just as you could gain the permit to access Sol without knowing there was an engineer in there.

Hmm, checked all Sirius stations at HIP 8396 today, several times, and no Permit Mission, just the same Donate to the Cause and the same two Take Out Power Grid missions. I am flying off to Procyon. Something ain't right here.

Permit missions only pop up within 15 LYs of the permit-locked system. The permit-locking faction must also be present, though they do not have to be in control.

Beyond that, it's RNG.

I flew to Procyon and still no Permit Mission. Sirius is only 5.23 LYs away, still locked. I am not sure if I should be doing some missions to gain more REP, or if it matters since I am already Allied with Sirius Corp? Should I just... wait... until the mission pops up? I also have a question of the Permit topic... I am in SOLO play and wondering, these missions that state "Elite" and suggested as part of a "Wing"... should I bother with them? I want to take the highlighted mission in pic but I don't want to have to engage a Wing of Elite bad ass ships and, BOOM, REBUY! Thank you!

Well, I WAS going to post that pic of the mission but for some reason this site almost always has an issue when I try to post an image "Oops, we ran into some problems"... almost every time I try to post an image :(

If you are already Allied, then gaining more Rep won't make you even more Allied. If you're not seeing the mission, keep trying, there, and in neighbouring systems. It's pure RNG.

Wing missions are deliberately designed to be more difficult than Solo missions, and are generally lower-paying. Each person doing a Wing mission gets the same share of the reward, so they've been balanced to assume you have a full wing of 4 people who are all getting the reward.

The forum does not allow you to upload pictures; they diallowed that, years ago. Too many people were doing that and they ran out of room. So you have to host pictures externally (they recommend using Imgur) and embed or link to the pictures there.

Thanks for the info but I have posted images, I have one in this post above, shows the mission board I was looking at in Titus Station. There's an add image button that brings up a small upload or drag n drop box for the image. It works for me about 20% of the time though. Odd, maybe people don't see my image? Anyway, thanks! So, do you suggest I take an Elite and Wing suggested mission? I understand you have no idea if I am good in fighting or not, but I doubt I would win a fight against say 3 Elite NPCs, unless they are in Cobras or Eagles and not Federal Gun Ship, an FDL and a Clipper. Ha! ;) Here, let me post some random image to this, so you see what I mean about images, and if I get the error, I'll take a screen shot and try to post that :)

I may have totally forgotten it right. The person who gave you the mission to sirius is like at level 3 or whatever when they give you the invitation.
They have to be like 3.6-3.8 to have the mission pop. Please don't taze me. :)

Maybe that is the key, you wait for the bureaucracy to recognize you and send the email invite.

In my case it is both Sirius and Alitoth as I turned in some exploration data today.

Sucks to have to wait another 1-100 working days for you visa application to go through, with no information about why it takes so long.

Since I posted this, I have unlocked several Permits. I was wondering, are there others yet to unlock, or is this it? See below. I have ran across a planet that was "locked" and an entire region of space that's locked (COL 70, I think), but I think there's no way to unlock those, so is this it for Permits? I think they should show you the locked Permits, greyed out with an explanation on unlocking them, so you know what you have unlocked and what you don't, and maybe a list of totally unlockable areas too! Just my opinion. Thanks!

There is both a thread on the forum detailing permits and you will find info on them in the Wiki too.

Thank you. I do find it more fun to post my questions... social interaction. Ha! ;) But thank sir. Also, trying to figure out why, or if, my Signature Banner is still messed up. Artie was working on it.

I wasn't criticizing you for asking the question, just pointing you to the info is all. Ask anything you like in this sub-forum it is hygge (warm and cozy).
All good 😉 I really have to look through that list. I checked it briefly and seems like there are many more, but I need to see what's what and what I really need and don't. Thanks!

Some people try to collect all the permits, simply because they can and it gives them something to do while waiting for other stuff to happen in-game. FD once said "all the permits are there for a reason", so if there's no obvious reason for a permit right now, there might be a reason one day, and already gaining the permit will let you skip the queue.

Many explorers will sell a 10 million credit page of exploration data to become insta-Allied with a permit-issuing faction, to shortcut the permit-attainment process. You can combine permit-locking with Road to Riches "exploration" to simultaneously gain credits, unlock permits and work towards Elite Exploration.
